It’s taken a few months, but we have finally hired our newest physio!

Introducing: Alexander Muscat

Alexander is a compassionate and dedicated physiotherapist with a strong commitment to helping clients optimise their health and enhance their overall quality of life. With a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) from University of South Australia, he has had a variety of experiences working primarily as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist.

He utilises a variety of evidence-based techniques, including manual therapy, dry needling, exercise, and education, all of which are tailored to meet the individual goals, needs, and expectations of each client.

Alexander is enthusiastic about sport and brings an extensive athletic background to his practice. He has played soccer for both Adelaide City FC and Adelaide Croatia Raiders Soccer Club and has competed at a national level in futsal (indoor soccer). Outside of his professional work, Alexander stays active through amateur soccer and long-distance running.

Our current physios have been super busy, so having Alex start with us is going to help us continue to be able to offer convenient and timely appointments to you, our valued clients in the long term.

Alex will be starting with us as of the 5th of May, and bookings are now live either via our online booking link, or by calling us in the clinic.

Welcome Alex! 🫶

This week, our team had the privilege of learning from our resident psychologist, Mia, from Align Psychology, in our professional development session.

Mia shared valuable strategies on how we can better support our clients’ mental and emotional well-being, particularly when they’re facing pain, injury, or loss of function. By understanding how these challenges affect different aspects of life, we can take a more holistic approach to care.

We’re incredibly fortunate to have such a knowledgeable multidisciplinary team, and these learning opportunities help us grow together as practitioners. The session left us with practical tools to enhance our support—not just physically, but emotionally too.

A huge thank you to Mia for her time and expertise!

Are You Training Too Much? 🏋🏃‍♀️‍➡️🚴‍♂️

With training, more doesn’t always mean better!

Something we see often in the clinic is athletes who have pushed themselves too hard for too long, and have started to break down, leading to soreness, injuries & burnout.

Pushing too hard without enough recovery can lead to:
• Muscle breakdown
• Joint stress
• Increased injury risk
• Poor Mental Health
• Hindered performance

Training hard is great—but training smart is even better! 👌

Key Takeaways:
• Rest is just as important as training!
• Pain & fatigue aren’t signs of progress—listen to your body!
• Incorporate recovery strategies to prevent long-term issues.

Active Balance 🤝 SAPOL

Great news SAPOL employees!

We are now a SAPOL approved & registered provider for both physiotherapy and exercise physiology 🙌

Police work is tough on the body – we see the toll it takes first hand in the clinic, and we’re so glad we can further support those who serve and protect our communities ❤️👮‍♀️

As of now:
▪️If you are an approved South Australian Police employee, you can submit a claim to SAPOL for out of pocket expenses you incur with physio or exercise physiology treatments with us - so essentially, these treatments work out at no cost to you!
▪️You will need to settle the account with us on the day of your treatment, but can then submit your receipt to SAPOL, who will reimburse you.
▪️You may also be eligible for the same benefits with our remedial massage & myotherapy providers, for a limited amount of sessions. Chat with us to find out more 😊

Some T&C's apply, so get in touch with us to discuss any questions you may have around eligibility.

💥Cracking knees💥

What does it mean, is it anything to worry about?

Some points to note:

▪️Clicky knees don’t necessarily mean damage or arthritis - more often that not the clicking we hear is harmless.

▪️Knees (or other joints that click) won’t necessarily lead to arthritis, and often don’t indicate degeneration in a joint.

▪️Experiencing clicking in the knees doesn’t mean you have to avoid exercises like squatting, jumping or running. Movement & strengthening are key to healthy joints!

▪️If you are experiencing pain, swelling, instability or loss of function along with clicking, it probably time to get checked out and see what’s going on & how to manage it, (your physio can be a great place to start) 😊

It’s that time of year, lots of people are getting started or getting back into exercising, which is great!🏋‍♂️🚴

What we want to help with, is keeping you exercising in the long term, and keeping you feeling good while doing so.

Some things to remember when getting started, or back into an exercise routine:

• Identify your “why”
• Set some clear goals
• Aim for consistency over intensity
• Choose the right activities for you
• Progress gradually
• Ensure a warm up & cool down
• Learn good technique
• Listen to your body

Getting into an exercise routine either after some time off, or for the first time, can be daunting and scary.

We hope these suggestions can help you ease into a training regime that is enjoyable, maintainable, safe and beneficial to you.

Whether it’s exercise advice, injury management or recovery from training, if you need some support with getting started, we’re here to help!
