Our obstacle courses with tunnels, trapeze swings, ball walkouts and animal walks are supporting fine motor skills πŸ‘πŸ™‚

Fine motor skills rely on controlled muscle movements, but did you know that heavy work activities can help strengthen those muscles and improve coordination?

Heavy work involves activities that engage the muscles and joints through movements like pushing, pulling, and lifting. These actions activate the proprioceptive system, which sends signals to the brain about body position and movement. This feedback helps the brain determine how much force to use for tasks like gripping a pencil, cutting with scissors, or buttoning a shirt.

Incorporating heavy work activities into daily routines can support fine motor development by improving muscle strength, coordination, and self-regulation. Activities like squeezing putty, carrying weighted objects, or pushing against resistance can provide the sensory input needed for more controlled and efficient hand movements.

This is terribly disappointing from the NDIA again. Rising costs, rent, electricity and general cost of living and still no increase in therapy earnings. I am committed to supporting families and providing therapy that improves lives but prices need to change in line with at least CPI increases.

Thousands of NDIS participants are facing longer waitlists and reduced access to critical occupational therapy services after the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) today confirmed that therapy support prices will remain frozen into a seventh consecutive year.
