I am a big advocate of relaxation/meditation and practising it in a sustainable way as a part of a holistic health approach. When life gets busy and stressful, it is even more important. I have recently discovered Insight Timer app and absolutely love it (no, I don't get paid to say that). I love that it's a free app with many thousands of guided meditations and other relaxation options, some as short as one minute. We don't have to be able to meditate for half an hour or more for it to be effective. A short meditation regularly is often more achievable and less intimidating. Here is one of my current faves. It's just 2 minutes... that's doable, right?

My challenge to you - a meditation a day. Even if it's one minute long.

**COVID-19 UPDATE: PHYSIOTHERAPY STILL OPEN FOR BUSINESS.**
The Prime Minister has tonight announced closure of more services, however, essential services are to remain open. Amongst the essential services are health professionals. The Prime Minister has specifically mentioned Physiotherapists as being allowed to and encouraged to continue to work.
So, yes, I am still open for business to look after you during this time and to continue to assist you with your musculoskeletal concerns.
It is important that we all take care of our health during this time both for your own well being as well as to ease pressure on medical services.
Rest assured that I continue to do all that I can, as always, to ensure that the clinic is a safe and clean environment so that I can continue to help you with your Physiotherapy needs.

Today Allyson Sturrock Physiotherapy celebrates its 1 year anniversary!!!

I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to all who have supported me - to those who have encouraged me, come to see me for Physiotherapy or referred others. A massive THANK YOU to you! I greatly appreciate it. Your support means more than you know.
An extra special thank you to Mary Hawkes who knew I was capable of this well before I did and who persevered in preparing me and building me up until I was ready. Also to my husband, Craig Sturrock, who has supported me and stood by me throughout this journey.

Good news for Health Partners clients..... I am very pleased to announce that at Allyson Sturrock Physiotherapy, we can now process Health Partners claims in the clinic. This means that we can process your Health Partners benefits on the spot and you only have to pay the gap, saving you time and offering increased convenience. Yay! I am happy to now be able to extend this service to my Health Partners clients.
All the major health funds can now be processed at Allyson Sturrock Physiotherapy as well as majority of the smaller funds, so payment and claiming is fast, easy and convenient.

I am passionate about postural and movement dysfunctions. Say what?.... postural and movement dysfunctions are posture or movement patterns that aren't ideal. Our bodies have particular postures and movements that are healthy and the further we move away from these, the more unhealthy stresses there are on our bodies. This can accumulate over time and lead to pain and injury. When you come in for an assessment at Allyson Sturrock Physiotherapy, I am looking not only at what is causing your immediate pain but also assessing what has caused it in the first place. By identifying and addressing these factors, we can achieve the best results, resulting in a more comfortable, resilient, happy and stronger body. Have you considered western acupuncture or dry needling? What's the difference? Dry needling is the needling of a trigger point in a muscle for the purposes of releasing it. Western acupuncture is a system that incorporates needling of local structures as well as other “layers” of needling to combine benefits from different systems in the body. The combination of these two systems allows relief of local symptoms as well as the capacity to provide general pain relief, an anti-inflammatory effect, facilitate a healing response, decrease stress, improve immune response etc. Having been trained in both western acupuncture and dry needling, my experience is that the combination of these two approaches can be used effectively to greatly enhance, and often speed up, patient results. These approaches can be used alone or in combination with other Physiotherapy techniques to provide the best results for you.
