Today on World Heart Day, we want to remind people that AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) are safe and easy to use by any person, even without training.

Once you open the case and turn the unit on, it will provide visual and audio prompts that coach you through how to apply the defibrillator.

With new AED laws coming into effect in South Australia on 1 January 2026, there will be more public access defibrillators in the community, meaning greater chances of survival from sudden cardiac arrest. Know where your nearest AED is!

Do you have a first aid kit at home, in the car and at work?

Half of Aussies who have a first aid kit at home haven't check it in 12 months or more! 😬

Today is the day to Check Your Kits. Are they fully stocked with everything you need, and are all the components in date? If the answer is no, or you’re one of the 34% who don’t have a kit at home, it's time to get prepared.

🎡Royal Adelaide Show Tips from St John SA 🎆

Heading to the Royal Adelaide Show? Our Health and Medical Services Team will be there to support you with our extensive clinical and operational staffing which includes Registered Paramedics, Registered Nurses, Medics and Responders.

Ensure you have a fun and safe day at the Show with these simple tips from our team:
💧 Stay hydrated – bring a water bottle and top up often
🧴 Be sun smart – slip on a hat, slop on sunscreen, and don’t forget your sunnies
💊 Pack your medications – asthma puffer, epipen, or any regular meds… keep them close
👟 Wear comfy shoes – you’ll be clocking up plenty of steps!

If you need us, our medical centres are open throughout the Show:

📍 Arena – beside the grandstand
📍 Carnival – near the Olympic sheds

Yesterday evening, we had the pleasure of celebrating the St John Ambulance SA Centenary of Youth at Government House with the Governor of South Australia, Her Excellency, the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, our Deputy Prior and Dame of the Order of St John, and Mr Bunten - all on International Youth Day!

This was an incredible milestone to commemorate! We are so proud that the St John Youth Development Program has, for generations, inspired and empowered young people to step into action when needed most, engage in community events and initiatives, and foster camaraderie, lifelong friendships, and selfless acts of service.

We extend our special congratulations to Indya Dodd, Youth Leader of the Year, and Matthew Reid, Youth Member of the Year, for sharing their personal journeys within the St John Youth Development Program and how these experiences have shaped who they are today. Thank you both for your dedication to our mission.

We would like to share a sincere thank you to all who continue to serve our Youth Members, and especially to our Youth Leaders, for guiding and inspiring the next generation. ❤️
