Proof that a coffee near the Blackwood roundabout can lead to progress not just traffic incidents.
I met with , Member for Waite, to talk about mobility and driving independence in Waite, and the policy settings that shape real-life outcomes for people with disability.

We discussed:
• The need for flexible driver training and reasonable adjustments for modified vehicle controls and autism
• Recognising occupational therapists as qualified healthcare professionals in fitness-to-drive processes
• The pressure NDIS pricing, funding periods and PACE are placing on families and small–medium providers delivering complex supports

A great conversation, practical next steps, and a nice reminder that local conversations can influence big systems.

Check out this incredible Abiloader, custom installed for one of our AT OT clients. The great news is that our local installer can now fit these too, making it seamless.

The Abiloader is a robotic arm that positions a wheelchair directly into the driver’s seat, making vehicle access smoother and more efficient. This setup means greater freedom and increased independence.

We love seeing the right solution make such a meaningful difference.

💡 HOT TIP: Could a ring help your teen concentrate behind the wheel?

Some learners need movement to focus—but when both hands need to stay on the wheel, what’s the answer?

✨ Enter the sensory ring.
We’ve used these successfully with drivers who need extra input to stay calm, focused, and safe.

Farm life + uneven paddocks + powered wheelchair needs 🚜🌾
You need equipment that can actually keep up.

Our AT OT team recently supported a client who needed something tough enough for farm terrain, but still practical indoors. After trialling the Alltrack R3 by Amylior, it ticked all the boxes. Plus, we even paired it with customised seating to match his individual needs, definitely a solution that fits his lifestyle!

Brad was recently interviewed by Natalie Karras on the Everyday Heroes Podcast, where they explored the gap between standard driving lessons and what some neurodivergent learners actually need, along with practical strategies that build confidence and reduce anxiety on the road.

As we often say, supporting people with disability, whether physical or neurodivergent, to gain independence through mobility and driving is at the heart of what we do at Williams OT. Driving independence is not just about passing a test. It is about confidence, safety and building capacity for the long term.

If you work with or support young drivers, this is a great insight into our approach.

At Williams OT, we love finding practical solutions that make daily care safer and easier.

Recently, we supported a bariatric client at home with the Liko Twin Gantry hoist. It’s a free standing system with twin motors and a lifting capacity of up to 500 kg, designed to support safe transfers and repositioning for personal care.
We also spent time with the support team to provide hands on manual handling training, so everyone felt confident using the equipment safely.

If transfers are getting tricky or you need guidance around assistive technology, we’re here to help.

🚗✨ A quick steer away from our usual content for something VERY exciting!

We’ve heard through the grapevine that a brand new television series is in the works... and they’re looking for neurodivergent learner drivers to share their real driving journey on screen.
How amazing is that?!

OT Driver Assessors (OTDAs) in the Sydney and Wollongong regions are invited to share this opportunity with eligible clients aged 18–25 who:
✅ Hold a learner licence (with under 10 hours of driving experience)
✅ Have an approved NDIS plan with driving supports
✅ Are open to being part of this exciting project

This is a unique opportunity to showcase authentic driving journeys and celebrate independence on a national platform.

Interested? Check out the details in the photo and complete the driving template https://www.williamsot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Driving-Template.pdf
). The completed template must be submitted directly to the casting agency to be considered.

🎬 Casting is officially OPEN!
For enquiries, please contact casting@fredbird.com.au
If you’re outside the Sydney or Wollongong regions, feel free to disregard.

👋 Adelaide OTs! If you’re working in (or finding your way around) the NDIS, this one’s worth a look 👀

Our good friend Sarah Collison from Verve OT is heading to Adelaide in March to run a two-day OTA workshop focused on navigating the NDIS with confidence and clarity.

📚 The OT’s Guide to Navigating the NDIS
📅 16–17 March 2026

Perfect for new and experienced OTs, this workshop blends practical NDIS policy guidance with real-world clinical application.

Sarah will also be at the ATSA Expo, with networking drinks planned on the Wednesday night after Day 1. A great chance to connect with other SA OTs!

After a left wrist injury, driving became uncomfortable and painful - particularly when reaching for indicators and other vehicle controls.

With the Veigel MyCommand electronic spinner k**b, this driver can now safely and comfortably access indicators, headlights, wipers and the horn directly from the steering wheel, without twisting or placing extra strain on the injured wrist.

This setup helps reduce pain, improve vehicle control and confidence, and supports continued independence behind the wheel - all while protecting long-term wrist function.

A great example of how the right technology can make everyday driving safer and more manageable.

🚗 If you or someone you support is experiencing pain or difficulty with driving, an OT driving assessment can help identify the right solutions.
