Have you ever wondered about the connection between Diabetes and your feet?

Have you been recently diagnosed with Diabetes and wondering why this is so important?

Diabetes can have a particular effect on blood vessels and nerves.

Because our feet are so far away from the heart and brain, the blood vessels and nerves of the feet tend to be smaller than the rest of the body and hence are more susceptible to injury / breakdown.
As a result, feet are often one of the first places you may experience diabetic related signs and symptoms.

Podiatrists play an important role in the management and prevention of diabetic related lower limb and foot complications. Following the latest evidence-based guidelines, we conduct regular neurovascular assessments to help effectively manage any concerns and prevent further complications.

Areas we can assist you with include:
• Regular assessment of your circulation and nerve sensation
• Footwear education
• Nail and skin care
• Treatment and management of wounds
• Poor biomechanics
• Foot pain

What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a technique that uses fine acupuncture needles to target and release tight or overworked muscles. It's a safe and effective way to reduce pain, improve mobility, and treat a range of foot and leg conditions—from plantar fasciitis to calf tightness.

Dry needling focuses on myofascial trigger points, which are tense, sensitive spots in muscles that can cause pain and limit movement.

At Rose Park Podiatry, we also utilise other hands on treatment such as sports massage, manual stretching and joint mobilisation to get the best results.

📝 We'll start with a chat: covering a thorough discussion about your main concern, symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, and short term and long term goals.

🦶 Foot + lower limb assessment: depending on your concern, this may include assessing strength, range of motion, gait analysis, nerve or vascular supply, and more.

📋 Explain the cause of your issue: We will create a personalised treatment plan for you.

💬 You’ll leave with a clear understanding of what’s going on, how we can help, and what the next steps are.

Heal Podiatry Rose Park's Ben Tirri on 'Discover With RAA Travel'

Ben recently featured on Episode 10 (timestamp 12:47), talking all things footwear while travelling abroad.

Now that we are seeing many clients and their families travelling again here are some helpful times to ensure your feet remain happy while away on holidays:

*We recommend buying your shoes towards the end of the day, this is because our feet naturally swell, even more so in warmer weather, this can make shoes tighter or rub over the course of the day.

*Allow 1 thumbs width (1.5cm) from your longest toe to the end of the shoe, this will provide space for your toes to move and avoid sore & bruised toenails

Sneakers or walking shoes are a great option for day to day activities and sightseeing; trail shoes or hiking boots are recommended for travel of rougher terrain, such as cobblestones paths or bushwalking.

If you have any questions regarding your feet or footwear, feel free to book an appointment and one of podiatrist will be sure to help!
