Group therapy sessions run by service providers for NDIS participants are, all too often, generic programs lacking meaningful individualisation and real-world experiences. Individual therapy sessions are excellent for targeted skill development, but are less optimally suited to social communication development.

Well, I have spent that last six months bringing evidence-based educational strategies, like universal design for learning, into the disability services sector!

Enter the Social Innovators Project. Enrolments are now open for the teenage program, Big SIP, commencing in September. Expressions of interest are also open for the child and young adult programs with commencement dates to be set once minimum numbers are reached.

So, this is pretty exciting. I am Jonathan, the founder of Artemis Disability Services, and I left full time teaching at the end of last year to move into the Disability sector. This shift has allowed me to set up a range of micro-initiatives, and here is the first!

Working at a school with a narrow staff development focus, I was not able to engage in PD tailored to my professional interests unless I did it in my own time and at my own expense. Well, now I can freely give some of my time to support other teachers and facilitate stronger communities with improved educational outcomes.

Join me as I share my knowledge gained from years of independent learning and practical experiences in Outdoor Education, Special Education, and Developmental Education. Nature connection is close to my heart and has played a critical role in my development since childhood.

I am incredibly passionate about getting you all out there, be it into the wilderness or just experiencing your school grounds in a new way. There are some exceptional wellbeing programs on offer to schools, but the great advantage of nature connection is there are no licencing fees or corporate gatekeepers here.

How is it that students engaging with green spaces have increased working memory capacity and decreased inattentiveness? Join me to find out on the 25th of April.

Please share with your professional networks and let's make this a wonderful morning learning together.

When combining this offer with the provision of a dual-qualified and dual-registered Teacher Developmental Educator, you can be assured that you are effectively leveraging your funding to maximise opportunities for growth for your child.

What is Nature Connection?

Nature connection is the profound relationship between people and the natural world. It is more than just appreciating scenic landscapes; it is about feeling a deep sense of belonging and interconnectedness with nature. This connection has significant implications for our wellbeing across physical, mental, and social dimensions. The level of nature connectedness that one experiences is important for all people, but of critical importance for those that are neurodivergent or at risk of experiencing mental ill-health.

When we consider that neurodivergent individuals are more susceptible to mental ill-health and reduced overall wellbeing, nature connection represents an incredibly powerful tool that is accessible to everyone, whether it be travelling to sites of natural significance, getting out into our own backyard, or simply bringing a little bit of nature inside with plants and/or animals, Artemis Disability Services are here to assist your connection with nature and boost your wellbeing.

Choose a dual-registered Teacher Developmental Educator when seeking Developmental Education for your child through the NDIS.

Although many registered Developmental Educators have experience delivering supports in schools as therapists or support staff, a key point of difference at Artemis Disability Services is that our Senior Developmental Educator is also a qualified, registered, and practicing Primary School Teacher.

Teacher Developmental Educators are uniquely positioned to support success across home, school and community contexts. We are able to translate best-practice educational strategies to home-based supports and simultaneously support our clients’ education settings to deliver supports that are tailored to an individual’s context and needs.

Welcome to Artemis Disability Services! Artemis was founded by Jonathan, who has over ten years of varied experiences across the education and disability sectors including Teaching, Developmental Education, and Outdoor Education.

At Artemis, our key services are Developmental Education for children and youth between four and twenty years of age as well as Inclusive Education Advocacy for families experiencing difficulties securing optimal educational supports and outcomes for their children. Our DE service is available to self and plan managed NDIS participants.

Our specialty is the integration of nature connection with our Developmental Education service. Regular meaningful connection with nature can help individuals reduce reliance on digital technologies for recreation and regulation. It also has positive impacts on mental, physical, and social wellbeing.

Let's work together. Let's thrive together.
