Kidney stones are crystalline stones (also called calculi) that form in your kidneys or ureters. Your ureters are the tubes connecting your kidneys to your bladder.

Kidney stones are a common problem that can cause severe pain. They tend to be more common in males than females. To help diagnose kidney stones, you might need scans, a urine test and blood tests. Kidney stones can often pass out of your system by themselves in your urine within a few weeks. Bigger stones may need treatment with a procedure or surgery.

What causes an ear infection?
Bacteria, viruses or fungi are usually responsible for an ear infection.

You are more likely to develop an infection if your ear is exposed to bacteria or viruses. This could be because of a generalised illness or an injury in, on or around your ear.

• having a cold or other respiratory infection
• air pressure changes, such as occurs on planes
• swimming in dirty water
• cleaning ears too much with cotton buds, causing scratches
• cuts or scratches on the outer ear
• not drying ears well after swimming or bathing

Heatstroke is the most severe heat-related illness. In extreme heat, your body’s ability to cool itself down can fail, causing your body temperature to increase to a dangerous level. If left untreated, this can result in permanent disability or death. Heatstroke requires immediate medical emergency care.

Heatstroke can cause nausea, dizziness and headaches, as well as confusion, seizures and loss of consciousness. To avoid heatstroke, be prepared for hot weather, stay out of the sun, and drink plenty of water.

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed in females, after skin cancer.

Symptoms of breast cancer can include:

• a lump or area of thickened tissue in the breast (especially if only on one side)
• a change in the size or shape of one or both breasts
• a change in the shape or appearance of the ni**le, such as crusting, sores, redness or inversion (where the ni**le turns in instead of pointing out)
• changes to the skin of the breasts, such as dimpling (looking like an orange peel), indents, rash or redness
• discomfort or swelling in one armpit
• pain in one breast that is not related to your menstrual cycle or continues after your period

See your doctor or healthcare professional if you notice symptoms of possible breast cancer, or if you have any concerns about your breast cancer risk.

Babies need sleep to grow and develop well. For newborns this is usually 14-17 hours in every 24 hours. But sleep patterns can vary a lot.

Newborns usually sleep in short bursts of 2-3 hours each. Some newborns sleep for up to four hours at a time. Newborns wake frequently to feed because they have tiny tummies. Your newborn might go straight back to sleep after feeding or they might stay awake long enough for a short play.

Sunburn is damage to your skin caused by exposure to sunlight. It can develop within 15 minutes in the Australian sun. You can prevent sunburn by avoiding exposure to UV radiation. Plan your day to avoid risk of sunburn from too much sun exposure.

When you are in the sun, the best way to prevent sunburn is to ‘slip, slop, slap, seek and slide’.

Slip on some sun-protective clothing that covers as much skin as possible.
Slop on broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF30+ sunscreen.
Slap on a hat that protects your face, head, neck and ears.
Seek some shade.
Slide on some sunglasses that meet Australian Standards.

Regular physical activity is one of the best things you can do for your heart health. Increasing your physical activity from as little as 10 minutes a day to the Australian Government’s recommended 30 to 45 minutes a day, five or more days of the week can help reduce your risk of heart disease and heart attacks. It can also prevent and manage many conditions and diseases, including some cancers, type 2 diabetes and depression.
