It all starts with a conversation... and we're looking forward to igniting a few conversations about mental fitness today at Feast Festival's Picnic in the Park!

We're delighted to be collaborating with the Feast Festival in presenting these events for Pridevember! 🌈

This Saturday November 9 the Mental Fitness Movement will be presenting three short Wellness Talks at Picnic in the Park in Adelaide:

⌚ 5pm - positive psychology consultant Bek will share a story of overcoming burnout in "Standing on Two Feet: Shifting from Independence to Connection and Deeper Wellbeing."

⌚ 5:10pm - business coach Ben presents an honest talk on masculinity and rethinking what it means to be strong in "Rainbows, Shadows, and Sunlight: Perspectives on Alpha Maleness."

⌚ 5:20pm - relationships counsellor Lili will discuss emotional safety in her talk on "Creating Safe Spaces: Building Safety for Ourselves and Others."

We will then share our "Conversation Cards" and invite everyone to step into the wellness discussion with us!

Today was a tricky day. It came with a low mood and a sense of helplessness... and then this quote from Chris Guillebeau appeared in an email.

"When you're not sure what to do, make something and help someone."

Simple and profound.

"Making" is the centre of creativity at the Mental Fitness Movement, and making a difference to others is something that drives us. So today we spent some time and energy crafting wellness talks to deliver this weekend, with the intent to help others live better lives.

Action is valuable.

A good idea is good... but imperfect application is better.

Don't get us wrong! We love knowledge and ideas and chewing over some juicy food for thought...
.. but if your ideas about improving mental fitness only remain as ideas, it's about as good as buying a gym membership and never going.

If you want to be better, you also have to do better.

People matter.

Relationships matter.

We think Simon Sinek was missing a huge chunk of the truth when he presented his "Golden Circle" of why, how what... he left out ⭐who⭐.

As humans, we deeply want to be appreciated for who we are.

As Theodore Roosevelt said, "people don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care".

That's why the Mental Fitness Movement focuses on , developing the relationships we have with our own self, and with each other.

Connection matters. 

Connect more with yourself. Connect more with others. Your life will be better for it.

We hate how watered down 💧 the concept of "wellbeing" is.

Wellbeing can mean anything from bubble baths and herbal teas to counselling, coaching, or... pretty much anything, really.

The Mental Fitness Movement is more specific. We lean on scientific evidence to offer proven strategies that help you and your brain level up. 🔼

We borrow from the fields of psychology, positive psychology, social work, physiology, occupational health and safety, neuroscience and more, with a focus on active "well-doing" that leads to greater "wellbeing" outcomes.

We want to move individuals, teams, organisations and communities from languishing, where wellbeing is low, to flourishing, where it is high.

Many of us use inauthentic behaviours to protect ourselves.

Maybe you use people pleasing? Defensiveness? Avoidance?

Maybe you've noticed how strategies like humour or logic can be used to distract attention away from something else?

Maybe you over-use a characteristic, like being nice, to keep the peace and maintain the status quo?

☝🏽 All examples of inauthenticity, used in the service of protecting ourselves and keeping ourselves safe.

But magic ✨ doesn't happen within the safe confines of our comfort zone.

Get uncomfortable. Get growing. Get mentally fit.
