This is not a Lecture

Taking life by the reigns and living it with intention rather than letting life happen to you. Hmmm that can sound like hard work or even impossible. You might feel like scrolling onto the next post & dismissing this one. I’m encouraging you to stay with me just a bit longer.

Your brain might automatically go on the defence. You might think that you are an exception so you excuse yourself with valid reasons why you can’t steer your own life. You could rattle off a million arguments defending your position. Still not a lecture, please stay the course with me as I care about you.

It’s so easy to blame external factors on why we aren’t leading the type of lives we wish. And to a certain extent this is all true as we can’t control many things that will have an effect on us. It’s easy to feel stuck, especially if you keep hitting roadblocks. Defeat just seems, well easier right ?

Despite all this the science shows us that we can, even in the most difficult of circumstances, choose to live with purpose and that in doing so we become healthier people. I want this for you. And you can have it.

Our purpose need not be grandiose, it just has to resonate with you. How we choose to use our time, nudging ourselves towards leading a life made up of decisions on how we go about even the most mundane of tasks, how we remain open to new ideas, to how we listen, how we interact with others, how we reflect internally (we must do this regularly), how we deal with negativity, frustration, problems, anger, annoying people, work, how we pick ourselves up after falling down & choose intention & purpose over & over again.

The doing part is the key to how you can have a healthier life. In the doing we are creating neural pathways. Utilising neural pathways on repeat gives rise to habitual behaviour. If we repeat these processes over and over we make a high speed freeway out of these neural pathways instead of a random goat track leading to nowhere. And that old defensive, negative, reactive self gets overgrown and overshadowed with the new purpose driven you. The one leading the story of your life, accepting things you can’t control & choosing how you will go about the things you can control. Thanks for staying the course. Now go & start pruning those goat tracks & halt the decay. I promise, it’s never too late to start. 💚💙
