Fall Prevention Tip #13: Make steps stand out!
Help prevent trips and falls by marking step edges with contrasting tape. This simple visual cue makes it easier for those with low vision to spot level changes, especially in aged care environments or around the home. A small change can make a big difference in staying safe.

Did you know? More than 70% of traumatic brain injuries that hospitalise Australians aged 65+ are caused by falls from standing height — not car accidents or other trauma.
It's a sobering stat that fuels our mission every day: to help prevent falls and support safer care in homes and facilities across the country.

Older adults are at the highest risk of falling in the first month after being discharged from hospital. That’s why the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care recommends home assessments led by occupational therapists to identify safety risks and recommend assistive equipment.
The cura¹ HomeCare range is designed to support this process, helping to prevent falls in residential settings. With products that alert carers when assistance is needed or when someone gets up unassisted, occupational therapists can better protect their clients at home.

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care found that most hospital falls happen during the day when staff numbers are highest but so are competing demands.
In other words, despite higher numbers of staff, they are so busy that they don’t see the warning signs until it is too late. That’s where we come in.
cura¹ provides the tools to help. Our fall prevention devices work with monitors and pagers to alert staff when action is needed—before a fall occurs.

According to the Australian and New Zealand Falls Society, nearly half of older adults (48%) report a fear of falling after just one incident. Leading to reduced mobility, social withdrawal, and a lower quality of life.
This is known as post-fall syndrome: a loss of confidence that can limit independence.
cura¹’s fall prevention devices are designed to break that cycle—so older Australians don’t have to live in fear of falling.
The 2701 Falls Monitor with SafeTime offers a smarter, safer way to monitor patients and residents for falls. Compatible with cura¹’s Bed Pads, Chair Pads and Floor Mats. Triggering an alarm when someone moves off a pad or onto a mat.
Its built-in SafeTime technology alerts caregivers when a connected pad has expired, ensuring pads are never used beyond their reliable lifespan. Whether installed beside a bed, chair, or doorway, the 2701 provides reliable alerts and peace of mind in any care setting.
We’ll be ready and waiting to answer all your questions 😉

Health checks can uncover conditions that increase falls risk—like low blood pressure, vision problems, diabetes-related nerve damage, arthritis, muscle weakness, or medication side effects.
By identifying these issues early, you can take steps to stay steady and safe. Book a check-up today.

Over 30 years ago our managing director, Frank Nardone, noticed there was a lack of cost effective, easy to use devices to assist the healthcare industry with falls, delirium, and the safety of wandering residents. So out of our humble facilities in Kilkenny, South Australia, the concept of cura1 was established to provide Electronic Medical Care products that could be used in hospitals, aged care homes, retirement villages, dementia wards, independent living, residential care and clinics.
At cura1 everything we do is done to earn your respect and trust, from our exacting standards during product development and manufacturing, to our zealous servicing of your needs. We pledge to measure our success by your satisfaction.
“cura” – the Latin word for “care” personifies who we are as a company. In short, our mission is to ensure cura1 continues to be a business that supports those using our products, a business our staff and distributors can be proud of and one that you will take pleasure in dealing with. Our staff are dedicated to the ongoing success of cura1 and proud to offer quality products that our clients highly value and respect and the users benefit from daily.
The cura1 range of devices and systems assist with:
Fall Prevention for the elderly or people who are frail, convalescing, or unwell.

Staff Alert and Security for facility staff, visitors, residents, and patients.
Duress systems for high risk areas and Call Assist systems for low and moderate risk areas.
