Happy International Women's Day! 💜

We had a wonderful turnout at ECH for our International Women’s Day event this week, centred on the theme “Balance the Scales.”

Our panel – including our CE Alan Morrison, Head of Home and Community Services Merrin Nancarrow and Head of Customer Experience Carolyn Dawkins – sparked powerful conversation about making sure women’s voices are truly heard at work. Team members joined in on the conversation and with a live poll, sharing where they feel the scales are off and what change they’d like to see.

Thank you to everyone who came along, asked questions and shared your experiences. This isn’t just about one day – it’s about the everyday choices we make to balance the scales for our colleagues and communities.

We are thrilled to share that our very own ECH LGBTI Connector, Pam Price, is being inducted into the South Australian Pride Hall of Fame (Class of 2026)!

For over 40 years, Pam has dedicated her life to ensuring others are seen, heard and supported. As a social worker, program leader and community advocate, she has strengthened le***an health services, established and led South Australia’s HIV Women’s project for nearly two decades, and championed inclusive ageing for older LGBTI South Australians.

Today, she continues that work at ECH, ensuring that identity and dignity are never diminished by age.

Please join us in the comments to congratulate Pam on this massive achievement! 👏🎉

Determination. Creativity. Joy. That's Helen. ✨

When ECH client Helen injured her shoulder, everyday tasks suddenly became difficult. But instead of giving up, she got creative.

Pre-pegging clothes before hanging them. Threading multiple needles at once. Using a lycra strip to help get in the car. Helen found ingenious ways to adapt and keep doing what she loves.

"I realised there were still so many things I could do," she says. "I can play the piano, read, sew, knit, write poetry, phone friends and go for a walk."

With support from ECH physiotherapy and Support at Home services, Helen continues living independently—and thriving. She's crocheted over 100 colourful phone bags for charity, hand-stitches temperature quilts, and writes beautiful poetry, including "Pe***ng the Prayers," inspired by hanging her washing.

Her message is simple but powerful: "Focus on what's possible. There's always something you can do."

Helen's resilience and positive spirit remind us all what's possible with the right support and mindset.

Thank you for inspiring us, Helen! 💚

Meet Rose-Ann, 87 years young and still passionate about cooking! 👩‍🍳

Despite health challenges, Rose-Ann is determined to keep creating her own meals. Every fortnight, she cooks with Holly, an ECH Home Service Team Member, preparing hearty favourites like shepherd's pie and sausage rolls to freeze for the week ahead.

"Even if I'm not feeling 100%, I make that effort, and I find that I enjoy it," Rose-Ann says. "You've got to have someone you can work with and who likes to cook as well."

💡Rose-Ann's top cooking tips:
✓ Keep trying, even when tired—you'll be pleased you did
✓ Cook with someone who loves it
✓ Freeze meals for later (small freezer = game changer!)
✓ Use practical tools like slow cookers and peelers
✓ Don't worry about perfection—just enjoy the process
✓ Experiment with herbs and spices for flavour

"Food for older people can be a bit bland," Rose-Ann says. "So Holly and I make things that taste good. Then we sit and enjoy a sample together!"

Cooking together isn't just about the food—it's about connection, independence and keeping skills alive.
