💛 Today is R U OK? Day 💛

Being a parent or carer can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be tough. Between appointments, therapies, school, work, and daily life, it’s easy to put your own wellbeing last.

👉 Today is a reminder to pause, connect, and check in – not just with friends and colleagues, but especially with parents and carers who may be carrying extra loads.

💬 A simple “R U OK?” can open the door to important conversations.

At Children’s Physio SA, we see the strength of families every day, and we also know the value of support. Together, let’s make sure no one feels like they have to do it alone.

🌼 Ask. Listen. Encourage. Check in.

🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️ We’re Stepping Up for a Cause! 💚

The Children's Physio SA team is participating in Steptember, taking 10,000 steps a day to support children living with Cerebral Palsy.

Why? Because 1 in 700 births in Australia is affected by CP, and every step we take raises awareness and funds for early therapy, support, and brighter futures through the Cerebral Palsy Alliance.
💥 You can help too!

Big news from our team!
Did you know that one of our Directors, Phil Calvert, chairs the Board of the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians – the leading organisation representing Specialist Sport and Exercise Doctors in Australia?

Phil has spent a few days in Melbourne this week fulfilling his responsibilities in that role, and we’re proud to see him contributing to the broader health community through such important leadership.

“But they look so comfy!”
You might see your child sitting in a W-shape, knees bent, feet splayed out behind them, and think it’s harmless. But for kids with hypermobility, W-sitting often becomes a go-to for stability because their joints are more flexible.

👀 The catch?
It can actually reduce core engagement, limit trunk rotation, and place extra strain on hips, knees, and ankles. Over time, it may impact posture, balance, and coordination.

💡 At Children’s Physio SA, we work with families to support kids in developing strong, stable, and confident movement, in ways that are functional and fun.

Got a little one who W-sits a lot? We’re here to help.

🎒Back to School: “Is your child’s school bag too heavy?”
It’s a question we hear a lot, but here’s what the research says:
There’s no strong evidence that heavy school bags cause long-term back pain. However, poor backpack habits can lead to discomfort, fatigue, and short-term aches.

The good news? A few small tweaks go a long way:
✔️ Use both shoulder straps
✔️ Pack heavy items close to the spine
✔️ Choose a well-fitted bag
✔️ Encourage movement breaks during the day

And if your child’s complaining of pain, tingling, or changes in posture, a physio can help assess what’s going on and get them moving well again.
