Meet Dan Hales.

Our new mental health therapist and class facilitator. Dan has 20 years experience as a social worker. A Masters degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy. And two decades of yoga and meditation practice under his belt.

We’ve known Dan long before Human.Kind existed, working side by side in the arts sector (he and Tessa used to perform in leotards together at Womad, Feast Festival, and famously at the roller derby grand final half-time show).

As a therapist, Dan has worked with youth services, LGBTIQA+ folk, refugees, and Aboriginal / First Nations communities. His practice is driven by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and nervous system-oriented mindfulness strategies.

As a writer and performer, Dan has a passion for creative movement practices, and expressive arts-based therapies. His practice is trauma-informed and remains rooted in values of client self-determination, systems theory, and social justice.

You can now catch Dan teaching Yin classes in the city, plus an exciting new class soon to be launched.

He’s available for counselling and psychotherapy sessions Wednesdays and Fridays, covered by Medicare rebates.

Hello friends... Just a reminder that The Intersektion Counselling and Psychotherapy is OPEN for BUSINESS and TAKING NEW CLIENTS at Human.Kind Studios (Halifax street in the city). If you have friends or family members (that I don't know) who are seeking counselling OR you know someone that refers clients to therapy, please keep me in mind and spread the word.

I work Wed and Fri afternoons and I now have my provider number so can accept Mental Health Treatment Plans. The gap is approximately $60. HK studios also accept many private health plans, but give them a call to check they accept yours before booking!

I generally see clients 16yo+ but if you know if someone younger who is looking for support then feel free to reach out and we can discuss options.
