It is great that this is finally offered at WCH
- congratulations to Dr Cartwright. When I worked there I came back proficient in the technique from additional overseas training but was told this was “too hard” by administrators, including the former head of unit - we just had to send small children interstate for long periods. COVID travel restrictions have obviously forced a rethink which is excellent for the kids of SA with early onset

A great and blog worth checking out!

Looking after the amazing and inspiring Annie Holland has been an absolute pleasure and couldn’t have been done without the wonderful Flinders Medical Centre Neurosurgery, Anaesthesia and ICU teams.

Great to see her ongoing recovery!

Terminally ill Annaliese Holland’s life almost came to an end last year after her spine threatened to crush her vital organs.

But she still walked the City-Bay for charity.

Support the Surf Club that looks after you!

Despite its reputation as a “safe” beach Horseshoe Bay has seen a few accidents over the years and the SLSC does an amazing job. And they now have food in summer!

Thanks for the shout out Dr Mike Selby 📣

There is a myth that complex can’t be done in a private hospital in 🇦🇺. In fact, I regularly hear of surgeons perpetuating the false perception of “superiority” of safety in a public hospital.

Of course there are some very complex patients, often with multiple severe medical and social issues, that do require surgery in public but by and large the majority of patients - kids and adults - who are fit for major scoliosis or kyphosis correction can have surgery in private.

Private hospital advantages can include having parents stay with their kids whilst in ICU, new technologies including the latest in Navigation and Intra-Operative imaging and very importantly - a choice of surgeon.

Of course public hospitals still play a vital role in teaching trainees and providing essential emergency care to Aussie’s but with wait lists spiraling out of control considering surgery in private is always an option.
