You know, when it comes to your thyroid, iodine is truly the Goldilocks of nutrients. It's not about "more is better" or "less is best" – it's about finding that sweet spot of "just right." And trust me, getting it just right is absolutely vital for a happy, healthy thyroid!
I often see people who are either avoiding iodine, or enthusiastically loading up on it, thinking they're doing their thyroid a favor. It's like Goldilocks trying porridge that's too hot or too cold – neither is quite right! 🤦♀️
So, how do you find your "just right" iodine intake? I look at all your sources: supplements, medications, those sneaky personal care products, and, of course, your diet and salt.
Here's my quick guide:
✔️ On thyroid meds? This doesn't mean you're getting enough. Often i see people need more.
✔️ Have thyroid disease (Hashimoto's, Hypothyroidism, Graves) but not on meds? Go slow!!! Too mcuh iodine will make it worse.
✔️ No thyroid disease? 50-200 mcg is generally safest, but often by reviewing bloods regularly we can often tweak it further.
It can feel a bit like a balancing act, but getting iodine right can make a huge difference in how your thyroid functions.
