So I tried going to a community event not long ago... spent 15 minutes working up the courage to say hi and then waved at someone who wasn’t even looking at me.

10/10 social skills. Would recommend. 🙃

For lots of people, it’s not just nerves or awkwardness, it’s the real, everyday barriers that come with disability. Things like sensory overload, mobility, communication, or just not having the right support to get there in the first place.

Meet Maddie McTernan - s14-classified Paralympic swimmer, world record holder, and two time silver medallist.

Back in year 7, Maddie was ready to hang up the goggles. Then she discovered Para-swimming... and everything changed.

Now she's making a splash on the world stage and giving back through volunteer work at the Animal Welfare League QLD and Arundel Park Riding for the Disabled.

Her advice?
"Be brave. Be strong. You've got this."
