On 9 June 2018, the Woodville West Torrens Football Club became the first SANFL club to host a mental health-themed game, dedicating our Round 10 match to the message: “It’s ok, not to feel ok.”
We partnered with UnitingCare Wesley Bowden and the SA Mental Health Commission to raise awareness, educate the community, and start conversations that matter. A special luncheon featured expert panellists and focused on youth mental health, early intervention, and how we can all play a role in supporting one another.
To help promote the day, the Club produced a simple but important poster, reinforcing the message and encouraging supporters to get behind the cause. It served as a visible reminder that mental health matters and still does.
Reflecting on the initiative, current CEO and then Board Member David Couzner said:
“In 2018, we made the conscious decision to confront an issue that too often lives in silence. Mental health challenges affect players, families, and the broader community, and we felt we had an obligation to lead. That obligation has never wavered. Today, our commitment to player wellbeing and mental health is as strong as ever.”
That commitment continues today.
Through our proud partnership with Adelaide Psychology & Co., we remain focused on supporting the mental well-being of our players, staff, and wider club community.
A sincere thank you to the entire team at Adelaide Psychology & Co for their ongoing dedication and care, and for standing alongside WWTFC in this important space.
