Did you know that Goji berries are thought to be the only natural food that can stimulate the pituitary gland and promote the release of Human Growth Hormones (HGH)? This hormone can help slow, and even reverse, some signs of aging.

That look you get when the senses in your hands become your eyes...
Do you remember the old ‘Princess and the Pea’ story? Refining palpation skills is like the attempts to be able to sense a tiny pea under a hundred mattresses. Its a vital part to becoming a good osteopath, massage therapist or body worker.
It’s one thing to understand the musculoskeletal system in theory and be able to label a diagram, it’s another thing entirely to have an understanding of these muscles when working on a real live person. To be able to find these muscles under skin and fat and understand the quality of connective tissue, muscle tissue, tension and hydration specific to each individual.
According to Karel Lewit, noted Czechoslovakian physician,"To begin to learn palpatory skill, one must possess a firm grasp of anatomy and the supporting soft-tissue structures. Palpation of tissue structures seeks to determine the texture, resilience, warmth, humidity and the possibility of moving, stretching or compressing these structures. Concentrating on the tissue palpated, and pushing aside one layer after another, we distinguish skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscle and bone; we recognize the transition to the tendon, and finally the insertion."
And then we have to lean into our intuition. What area, direction, pressure, tempo resonates best in accordance to what we are sensing. It’s a constant feedback loop, a movement meditation.
For me I also find it useful to notice the ease or tension on the clients breathing, and posture. Whether they are clenching their jaw, or relaxing their brow. It becomes second nature to do this after time.
My background in yoga brings me to see someone’s body as a sum of their experiences. It has housed every thought and every feeling and every encounter they have ever had. In every treatment it is my aim not only to nurture the musculoskeletal aspect, but honour the conscious being those bones, muscles, and skin house.

I will soon be revealing the new space I have created for my wellness coaching sessions. I have called it “The Nurturing”.
It is a place for people to come and have their well-being tended too. It is my hope that they always feel comfortable and welcome here and can step away from the daily grind and take time nourish their bodies and declutter their minds.
The space is comfortable, zen, has an abundance of light and fresh air, and is surrounded by abundant fruit trees and greens. More to be revealed in the coming weeks...
nurture
/ˈnəːtʃə/
care for and protect (someone or something) while they are growing.
Middle English: from Old French noureture ‘nourishment’, based on Latin nutrire ‘feed, cherish’.

“Your life does matter. It always matters whether you reach out in friendship or lash out in anger. It always matters whether you live with compassion and awareness or whether you succumb to distractions and trivia. It always matters how you treat other people, how you treat animals, and how you treat yourself. It always matters what you do. It always matters what you say. And it always matters what you eat.” ― John Robbins, The Food Revolution: How Your Diet Can Help Save Your Life and Our World

The levator scapulae is a skeletal muscle situated at the back and side of the neck. As the Latin name suggests, its main function is to lift the scapula.

Levator scapulae syndrome is usually caused by poor posture of the shoulders. For example, sitting at a computer hunched over with your shoulders rounded. This posture stretches the levator scapulae muscle and, if performed over a long period of time, it can cause inflammation and pain within the muscle.

Releasing this muscle through a variety of massage techniques helps you relax your shoulders down, restore good posture, reduce pain, and relive headaches.

Do you have a job, a car, and a couch? Congratulations! Your hips are probably as tight as a Marine Corps topsheet.

You’re in good company because it’s the same for pretty much everyone these days. Poor hip mobility can contribute to issues like lower back pain, knee problems… and it gets in the way of squats and other stuff you want to do!

Your hips are the center of movement for your body, so the healthier and less restricted your hips become, the more potential your body has for strength, power, and athleticism.

Also, It just feels SO GOOD to have uninhibited movement through your hips and lower back! My clients are often surprised with the relief they feel and after receiving stretch therapy on these areas.

Hit up the hamstrings, glutes, piriformis, hip flexors and quadratus lumborum to stand with more confidence and have freedom in your stride.

Lay on your mat in prone position. Roll your shoulders forward, straighten your arms along the sides of your body, and align your hands with your hips. Turn the palms upward. Press the tips of each hand into the ground. Engage your pelvic floor to support your spine, and suck in your lower belly deep inside. Inhale as you press the front bones of your pelvis into the ground to open your hip joints and nutate the sacrum. Lift your chest off the ground and send the sternum forward to create length. Keep your legs totally straight and feel your thighs engaging while you raise them off the ground. Extend energy out through the big toes, and press inner edges of the heels and toes toward each other. Rotate the thighs inward to help give your sacrum space. Take 5 slow smooth breaths through your nose in this position while maintaining a lengthening sensation through the whole body and engaging your back muscles.
