It's hard to receive a gift if the hands are closed....

A gentle (and beautiful) reminder this annual bloom of ours offers - that to receive the gift of Yoga we need to be open and learn to surrender 🌸🌺

'When we live with exuberance, with joy, with zest, with passion, all of life seems filled with that. There is joy on the face. The body exudes peace. Everything is great. Everything goes smoothly.

But when we live in fear, life seems filled with anxiety and pitfalls. When we are down, all we do is gripe and complain. We say, I wish I felt like I did yesterday.

However it can be like yesterday if we realise that whatever is happening right now will pass. We can get through it. The joy and wonderful things will be there again.

For this we practice, we get in touch with our true Self."

-Mahamandaleshwar Swami Nityananda

Happy holidays, stay safe and may you be filled with the light of consciousness.

Classes resume Tuesday 4 January, 2022!

'When it hurts, let it hurt and be still' Heard these words a few weeks ago from my dear teacher Keval, they are helping me move through a very trying time.

I know many others are also experiencing difficult times and only hope these words allow you too to find more peace..... even when hurting we can feel at peace 🙏

And in the midst of it all find the good moments, when you do, as he said too 'when it feels good, let it feel good and be still'

If you watch the sunrise, as the sun rises, darkness simply vanishes.

In the moment of that light, you don't think to yourself, where is the darkness, you simply appreciate the light.

In the same way, we can learn always to be filled with light. When there is light, there is no darkness.

-Mahamandaleshwar Swami Nityananda

I was gifted with this at just the right time today, a beautiful reminder of that light within that can never be blown out 💜

Banarasana (lunge pose)

Traditional practice of the lunge encourages the knee to come over beyond the ankle. This allows for greater stretch through both thighs, and the pelvic region. If taking traditional form, ensure the heel of the front foot remains well grounded.

If however there is pain or discomfort in the knee, we bring the knee back a little, in line with the ankle.

This posture opens the groin, hips and chest. With the chest open in this way, lung capacity increases. Banarasana stretches and tones the legs and strengthens the knees, ankles and hips. Will also strengthen the lower spine so long as the lower belly is drawn inward. It is great for toning and cleansing abdominal organs, easing conditions such as indigestion and constipation. Can also assist with releasing discomfort associated with sciatica.

Once you've found comfort in the posture, try to feel the arch in the body from the press of the back foot through to the crown of the head.

Yoga can help. There's a range of release practices woven into each class, they work specifically at releasing through all the joints in the body, releasing stiffness and pain and at the same time increasing mobility and flexibility.

They are simple but unusual so you may even land up with a big smile on your face, free of charge 🤣🙏

This is the practice of Karma Yoga. When love is at the heart of all that we do, life becomes our practice, and we learn to offer ourselves selflessly 🙏

Trikonasana (triangle pose) 🔺️

Gives strength to legs, feet and ankles.

Stretches hips, groins, hamstrings, calves and spine.

Opens chest and shoulders.

Strengthens back, neck and abdominals.

Stimulates abdominal organs, aiding in digestion.

Strengthens bones and bone tissue.

Moves energy more powerfully through the spine.

Will be practicing all that this posture has to offer in class this week, along with variations/modifications where needed.

🕉 Being
🕉 Consciousness
🕉 Bliss

'Being must be conscious because an unconscious being would be a mere thing, a circumscribed or limited object. It could have no independent existence and hence no real being. Consciousness must be happy or it would not want to exist. A miserable state of consciousness would naturally put an end to itself in the course of time. Therefore, these three factors are really one.'
