It can be an overwhelming place to begin with- screens, alarms, noise, and people everywhere. Not how you pictured bringing your baby into the world.”

Were excited to share that Adelaide Mums & Babies Clinic will now be using BetterConsult to make your visits smoother and more personalised.

BetterConsult is a pre-consultation tool that allows you to share your symptoms, health history and questions for your doctor prior to your appointment.

This means more time focused on treatment, and less time spent explaining things during your visit!

New Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society Guidelines Released!

What’s changing?

Raised glucose thresholds for the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT):

- Fasting: from 5.1 → 5.3 mmol/L

- 1-hour: from 10.0 → 10.6 mmol/L

- 2-hour: 8.5 → 9.0 mmol/L

Revised early screening:

Only women with specific risk factors will undergo non-fasting HbA1c testing in the first trimester. If their HbA1c is elevated this will prompt an early OGTT. It is expected that less women will require an early OGTT

Other women continue standard OGTT at 24–28 weeks, but fewer will repeat the test

Why the change?
- To avoid unnecessary diagnoses and interventions—which can bring anxiety, stigma, dietary restrictions, and changes to birth plans.

- To prioritize resources for women and babies at meaningful risk–without compromising safety

What this means for pregnant women
- Universal OGTT screening remains standard.
- Early, targeted screening for high-risk individuals.
- Raised thresholds mean some low-risk women will no longer face a GDM diagnosis.
