The future of Exercise Physiology (EP) in the NDIS is at stake — and that could mean losing access to the supports so many rely on.

🗣️ Your voice matters! Take 5 minutes to complete this survey and help protect EP services. The survey Is also for participants who access EP services to share their experiences and risks if access to EP services were removed.

ESSA are also seeking evidence and stories from participants so if you have time, please email us and we will submit to ESSA to use in their evidence with the Advisory Committee (deadline for this is Oct 16)

✅ Take the survey

https://healthau.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_07WviqoRhUtWy58

⚠️ If the Evidence Advisory Committee isn’t convinced that EP works, improves independence, and can’t be replaced by other services, EP may no longer be covered under NDIS.

⏰ survey Deadline: 9 November 2025 — don’t wait!

Exercise Physiologists play a vital role in helping people living with disability improve their health, independence, and quality of life through structured, evidence-based exercise programs.

The NDIS Evidence Advisory Committee is currently reviewing exercise physiology among the first group of disability support services under its new evaluation process.

Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) is preparing a comprehensive submission to demonstrate the value and impact of exercise physiology in supporting people living with disability.

We’re calling on all Exercise Physiologists to share their insights, experiences, and evidence of impact. Your input will help ensure continued recognition and support for EP services within the NDIS.

Exercise Physiologists, please complete the NDIS Evidence Advisory Committee survey: http://bit.ly/48i3fN6

Did you know gross motor skills (think crawling, walking, running, jumping) lay the foundation for your child’s confidence, independence, and play?

Gross motor skills involve large muscle groups - arms, legs and trunk - moving together in a coordinated and controlled way 🤸

Gross motor skills aren’t just about movement – they help kids explore their world, make friends, and feel capable in their bodies. These skills are essential for everyday activities like walking, jumping, catching and throwing, climbing stairs and even getting dressed!

Exercise Physiologists work with kids to build strength, coordination, and balance through fun, play-based activities. Whether it’s helping a toddler master climbing stairs or supporting a school-aged child or teen, or even a young adult to improve their running technique, or to throw and catch a ball, use a racquet or bat, climb the playground, we focus on:

✨ Developing core strength & stability
✨ Improving coordination & balance
✨ Supporting participation in sport & play
✨ Making movement fun and engaging

Fine motor skills - why strength matters 🖐️ 💪🏼

Fine motor skills aren’t just about hands and fingers! 🖐️
We need strong cores, shoulders, and arms (and grip strength) to support those small, detailed movements.

Our Exercise Physiologists focus on building core strength, posture, shoulder stability, balance and coordination, and grip strength — the building blocks for confident, coordinated hands.

Exercise Physiology can also be a great option while on a waitlist, or a great way to compliment existing therapy, to build the underlying physical foundation to maximise therapy outcomes!

Did you know that physical development supports all areas of a child’s growth? 💪🏼😊

Physical development is one of the foundational aspects of a child’s development.
It includes both gross motor skills (like running, jumping, and climbing) and fine motor skills (like holding a pencil, or using scissors). As children gain better control over their bodies, it directly supports progress in several other key developmental areas such as:

Cognitive Development 🧠
Children who can move and explore are more likely to engage with their environment, ask questions, and develop curiosity—essential for learning.

Social Development 🤝
Playing games and engaging in physical activities with others helps children learn teamwork, cooperation, turn-taking, and how to manage conflict. Physical spaces like playgrounds become opportunities to build friendships and develop communication skills.

Emotional Development 💛
Mastering new physical skills boosts a child’s confidence and independence. Success in physical tasks can lead to a sense of pride and self-worth, and active play can also help regulate emotions and reduce stress.

Communication & Language Development 🗣️
As children play with others, they naturally engage in conversation—whether it’s giving instructions, negotiating rules, or general chit chat. This builds vocabulary and strengthens language skills.

Shoutout to this little monkey 🐒🙈

She’s been putting in the hard work week after week, and her determination has paid off — She can now complete the monkey bars all by herself! What an incredible achievement!

This means increased confidence, and ability, to keep up with her peers at school on the playground. It also means increased grip strength, upper limb strength and core strength.. which translates into a range of day to day benefits!

At Achieving Abilities, we’re passionate about supporting individuals to reach their goals, build confidence, and feel empowered to take on everyday tasks — whether that’s at home, with friends, or out in the community.

Way to go, M — we’re so proud of you! 🌟

How Can an Exercise Physiologist Help in Early Intervention?
Movement is more than just play — it’s a powerful tool for growth, development, and confidence. 💪

Exercise Physiologists use movement to help children build the strength, coordination, and confidence they need to thrive in everyday life.

Here’s how we can support your child:
👣 Gross Motor Skills – walking, climbing, jumping, balancing
💪 Core Strength & Posture – building stability for sitting, writing, and learning
🧠 Sensory & Emotional Regulation – movement supports calm, focus & self-regulation
🎯 Confidence & Participation – helping kids feel strong and capable in their bodies

Early intervention is also about empowering families and building lifelong skills—and movement is a key part of that journey.

Long waitlists for OT or physio? You don’t have to wait to get started. Exercise Physiology can be a great support while waiting for OT or physio, or as part of your child’s allied health team.

Supporting Developmental Delay Through Movement ✨🧠💪🏼

Developmental Delay can affect a range of areas—including cognitive abilities, speech, motor skills, emotional regulation and daily living tasks.
When it impacts physical function and motor planning, individuals may experience:• Low muscle tone• Muscle weakness • Poor balance & coordination• Reduced mobility• Difficulty with posture and core control

These challenges can make everyday activities harder—but Exercise Physiology can help! 💪
Targeted exercise and movement programs designed by a Clinical Exercise Physiologist can:✅ Build strength and endurance✅ Improve balance and motor planning
✅ Improve motor skills✅ Enhance coordination and mobility✅ Boost confidence and independence

With the right support, individuals with Developmental Delay can see real improvements in both physical and cognitive function.
