At Tendercare we understand the intersectionality between cultural diversity and disability, it is important to be aware of the unique challenges faced by individuals who belong to both marginalized communities. This requires a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, empathy, empowerment and compassion in all aspects of our operations and services, from hiring practices and workplace culture to the design and delivery of services.
Here are some steps that we can take to better serve the intersectionality of cultural diversity and disability:
Develop cultural competency and disability awareness training for employees to ensure that they understand the unique experiences of these communities.
Ensure that our services are accessible and inclusive, and that we take into account the cultural and linguistic needs of individuals with disabilities.
Partner with community organizations that represent the cultural and disability communities we serve to ensure that our services are culturally appropriate and accessible.
Develop outreach and engagement strategies that are culturally and linguistically appropriate and that target individuals with disabilities from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Advocate for policy and systems changes that promote equity and inclusion for individuals who belong to both communities.
Foster a workplace culture that values and celebrates diversity, and that provides support and resources for employees with disabilities.
