Tell us a little about your professional background?
I’ve worked in a variety of roles over the years, including as a butcher in the meat works, a security guard, and as an enquiry specialist/teller in banking. Each of these roles has given me different skills and experiences that I now bring to my work in the community.

What do you do in your role?
As a Community Care Driver, I provide safe and reliable transport for clients to medical appointments, shopping, and social outings.

How does your role assist NWRH clients?
My role helps clients maintain their independence and stay active in the community by making it easier for them to get where they need to go with comfort and ease.

What's the favourite part of your role?
My favourite part of the role is having conversations with clients and hearing their stories along the way.

Any fun interests and hobbies outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy gaming on my computer, playing board games, tackling puzzles and puzzle games, and spending time with family and friends.

NWRH HQ in Townsville has been undergoing some renovations after spaces housing our Finance, Corporate Services, Mental Health, Central Intake and Carer Gateway team were damaged in the unprecedented wet season.

A mammoth effort that involved lots of trades, team members working remotely and plenty of design input, we are very excited to see the space now complete and the teams back working at full capacity in an ergonomically and aesthetically pleasing environment; complete with greenery and scenic prints from some of our stunning communities🪴

Introducing NWRH Rural and Remote Carer Support Officer Jannah-Kaa (Jah)

Based out of our Mount Isa office and an integral part of our Carer Gateway team, get to know a little bit about our superstar Jah!

🧡💙💛

Tell us a little about your professional background?
My background included working as a face-to-face fundraiser, travelling across New Zealand and Australia raising money for charities. I have also studied Mental Health and Drug Addiction and have always held an active role within my family and community.

Why did you choose your role?
I chose this role because of my lived experience as a carer for family members, and through witnessing, supporting, and experiencing my own share of mental health challenges, hardship, and trauma both personally and within my community.

What do you do in your role?
In my role, I connect with carers from all walks of life, supporting them to identify their goals and priorities while walking alongside them in their journeys. I work with carers to strengthen their resilience, wellbeing, and holistic health, empowering them to grow and feel supported in the incredible work they do.

How does your role assist NWRH clients?
My work is focused on caring for carers - whether they are supporting people with disabilities, mental health challenges, ageing parents, grandparents and aunties or uncles, or even elders caring for younger generations. I help carers feel equipped and confident in navigating the often-complex requirements of care, so they can continue supporting their loved ones with dignity and strength.

What's the favourite part of your role?
My favourite part of the role is travelling to remote communities to ensure that services are delivered equitably. I treasure hearing stories from elders, learning from their wisdom, and walking alongside individuals, families, and communities to support holistic wellbeing and self-sufficiency - whilst having some fun along the way.

Any fun interests and hobbies outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking and baking, tending to my ever-growing collection of houseplants, and looking after my pet fish. Most importantly, I love spending quality time with my friends and family.

Today is R U OK? Day 💛

R U OK? Day is a powerful reminder to check in with those around us and to start meaningful conversations that can make a real difference. It’s okay not to be okay, and reaching out could change someone’s day or even their life.

Across our organisation today, our teams came together in different locations to connect, support one another, and share in this important message. To add a little fun and positivity, we also rolled out an organisation-wide Acts of Kindness Bingo, encouraging small but impactful ways to spread kindness throughout the day.

Let’s keep these conversations going, not just today but every day. ✨
