☁️🧴 Even in the cooler months, the sun’s UV rays are still hard at work! Just because it’s cloudy or chilly doesn’t mean your skin is safe. Make sun protection part of your daily routine, even in winter! 🌤️💛

Remember high school maths? Luckily, remembering to wear a hat is so much easier! 🤠

To protect your skin from the sun, all you’ve got to do is grab a hat that protects your head, face, neck and ears. The best kinds are wide-brimmed or bucket hats with an ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) rating. 👒.

The UPF rating is based on how well the material blocks UV and how much of the head it protects. The higher the rating, the more you’re protected. Hats with a rating of UPF50 and UPF50+ are recommended (easiest maths ever, right?).

There are other important things to keep in mind like:
☀️ the quality of sun protection your hat offers
☀️ whether it is practical
☀️ safety
☀️ ventilation (for during physical activity or in warmer weather).

Whenever you’re outside, reduce your risk of skin cancer by doing the 5 s’s:
🧥 slip on protective clothing
🧴 slop on SPF50+ sunscreen
👒 slap on a broad-brimmed hat
⛱️ seek shade
🕶️ slide on close-fitting wrap-around sunglasses.

At We2Care, we’re dedicated to delivering compassionate, person-centred support for people of all abilities and for older Australians. Together, we’re building a community where everyone feels valued and empowered 💞

[Image Description:
A rectangular graphic features a white background bordered in pink. At the top, in large bold blue text, it reads: “Care is not just what we do..” Centered in the image are two gently cupped hands holding a red origami-style paper heart. Written on the heart in a playful black font are the words: “it’s who we are.” At the bottom of the image is a horizontal band in pink, containing a row of four colored blocks in orange, blue, yellow, and teal, from left to right.]

🟣 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – 15 June 2025

Today, we stand united to raise awareness about the mistreatment and neglect of older individuals. Elder abuse can manifest in various forms, including emotional, financial, physical, and social abuse, often perpetrated by someone the person trusts.

Shockingly, recent studies indicate that 1 in 6 older Australians have experienced some form of elder abuse in the past year .

👁️ Recognize the Signs:
• Unexplained injuries or frequent accidents
• Sudden changes in financial situations
• Withdrawal from social activities or loved ones
• Depression, anxiety, or fearfulness
• Poor hygiene or unattended medical needs

🤝 Support and Resources:

If you or someone you know is experiencing elder abuse, help is available:
• National Elder Abuse Helpline: 1800 353 374
• Queensland Elder Abuse Prevention Unit: 1300 651 192
• Seniors Rights Victoria: 1300 368 821
