Lipedema is a relatively new health condition. This is why many health professionals do not know very much (if at all) about it. This means many women suffer with Lipedema without understanding what it is or how to manage it.
The problem is when someone suffers with Lipedema they may have tried multiple 'diets' and exercise regimens with limited results. This can be very confusing for those with Lipedema because they are trying everything they can to manage their abnormal fat distribution, but nothings seems to change.
Even though there is minimal research about Lipedema, there are a few things that seem to be linked to Lipedema. Some contributing factors include changes in hormones (puberty, pregnancy, perimenopause, and menopause), and inflammation.
Is there anything that women can do to help their Lipedema? The short answer is YES! The more complicated answer is that every woman with Lipedema is so different in their presentation, inflammatory responses, age (hormone stage), and other health impacts. That means the management has to be individualised.
I see women in my private practice, in Australia, to work through the nutrition and inflammation aspect of Lipedema.
