Their world changed forever when their healthy newborn son Riley
developed a cough at just 3 weeks old. Within days, he was fighting for
life in hospital, diagnosed with whooping cough. Too young to be
vaccinated at the time, Riley passed away at just 32 days old.
Determined to help other families experiencing the same pain, Catherine
and Greg Hughes launched the ‘Light for Riley’ campaign in his honour,
and later the Foundation of Australia, determined to
improve vaccination rates and protect other newborns like Riley.
