Keeping kids active, healthy and doing what they love is our passion.

Adele presented a series of talks on foot health and football boots to Pine Hills FC this week to help them find the right football boots and learn how to care for their feet.

Of course, if your child needs some help with their feet, keeping active or footwear selection feel free to get in touch with the clinic on 3325 2565 or book an appointment online with our podiatrists.

👏👏👏

A big thanks to Adele McGarry of Action Podiatry
for 2 great presentations over the past two nights.

What is a corn? 🤔
Corns usually occur when a bony prominence presses against another bone, shoe or the ground trapping the skin in between.

Corns can be very painful, especially when the corn grows deep into the skin. Small wounds can develop over high pressure areas and this is of particular concern with diabetic patients.

How do we help? 🙋🏼‍♀️
A podiatrist can remove a corn by using a sterile blade. This is usually painless and results in instant relief. We will then address the biomechanics issue causing the development of a corn to prevent it from recurring.

What is callus? 🤔

Callus is a thickening of the skin that has formed in due to a increase of pressure. It is the body’s response to protect the sensitive structures under the skin.

Most of the time calluses are not painful but they can cause issues with underlying skin breakdown and rubbing of footwear. 👞

How can we help?
A podiatrist can debride and remove the hardened callus painlessly leaving the feet feeling comfortable and pain-free. 👣

We love Archies! 👣

Did you know that Archies thongs incorporate the same amount of support that you would find from an ‘off the shelf’ orthotic?

The support found in Archies thongs helps to ease stresses or strains on the foot that wearing flat thongs can cause. The support of the Archies allows your foot to be in a more biomechanically appropriate position when walking.

We love that they look just like normal thongs, so you don't have to compromise style for comfort. 🙌🏼

➡️ What is Morton's Neuroma?
Over time the sheath surrounding the nerve between the toes becomes irritated, inflamed, and forms a thickened scar tissue. This usually occurs in between the 3rd and 4th toes

➡️ What are the symptoms?
You may experience pain, pins and needles and/or numbness of the nerve being affected.

➡️ What is the cause?
Footwear can be one cause of a Morton’s Neuroma. Injuries to the foot resulting in changes to your foot biomechanics can also be a factor.

If you think you may be experiencing Morton's Neuroma or any other foot pain, our experienced team is here to help 🙌🏼

FEET & DIABETES 👣

➡️ People with diabetes have unique footcare needs.

➡️ A common symptom of diabetes is nerve damage – also known as Peripheral Neuropathy. This can present in feelings of pain, tingling, weakness or reduced sensation in the feet or lower limbs.

➡️ Due to the loss of sensation in the feet, people with diabetes often are unaware of injuries or ulcers that may have developed.

➡️ When we assess a diabetic, we check both the nerve supply and circulation in the feet. We also complete any general foot and nail care in order to reduce the risk of any diabetic foot complications.

Are particular shoes giving you pain?

Did you know you can bring in your shoes to a consult which can help us gauge why they may be causing you pain or other symptoms.

Just bring the one or two pairs with you and not your whole wardrobe! 😆

One of the most common causes of heel pain in children aged 10-14 years is Sever's disease.

Sever's Diseas refers to inflammation of the growing area at the back of the heel bone.

Pain is usually located at the back and sides of the heel bone. Pain improves with rest and is aggravated by sport, running or jumping. You may even notice your child limping.

Our podiatrists can help by modifying your sport, provide you with footwear advice, the use of a heel lift or arch support and give your child some stretches to do.

Why do our feet need expert care? 👣

Our feet are vulnerable to injury and disease; there are over 300 identified foot conditions. 😳

Did you know - by the age of fifty, our feet can lose up to half of the shock-absorbing capacity which is something that cannot be replaced liked a pair of shoes.
