A great post on the many benefits of spending time barefoot 💗

Our feet absolutely love the sensation, the stimulation and the flexibility that walking on different natural surfaces gives them! 👣

Rough natural surfaces like pebbles and broken shells, stimulate the soles of the feet. It improves circulation, invigorates the nerves ends, and creates a response in the muscles and fascia that reduces tension, and often eases pain.

Soft undulating surfaces like the soft sand on the beach, provide a positive environment for exercising and strengthening the muscles in the feet and lower legs. This in turn is not only good for strength and flexibility, it also promotes the ability for good balance.

Green grass provides a natural massage for the soles of your feet, stimulating circulation and offering a different touch sensation to promote nerve function.

Walking barefoot also enhances proprioception, your body's awareness of its position in space. This can help to prevent falling, particularly as you age.

And don’t forget that this is all giving you a hefty dose of ‘grounding’ or ‘earthing’, which has the potential to reduce stress and inflammation due to the contact with the earth's negative ions; essentially acting as a form of natural therapy for your feet.

Anyway I think you get the idea … Your feet, mind and body will thank you for this. ❤️

Are you familiar with the drop in testosterone that affects men at middle age?

Last month I attended a reflexology webinar run by reflexologist, author and trainer, Lee Anthony Taylor, which covered just that.

On the course, Lee highlighted what men can experience during the male andropause, a transitional stage that happens around middle age when testosterone levels start to decline.

He explains that the changes can sometimes come as ‘quite a shock’ – especially when combined with major upheavals or trauma.

Sadly, there are some men who are simply dismissed as a ‘grumpy’ in their older age.

Read this blog post to find out more about this commonly overlooked transitional stage for men:

There are many reasons why working the reflexes on your feet can support brain health and function... here are a few of them 🧠

Thanks to Kunz & Kunz Reflexology for this great summary

What are the benefits of reflexology on brain health and function?

Reflexology has been found to have several benefits on brain health and function. Some of these include:

1. Stress Reduction: Reflexology helps to reduce stress and promotes relaxation, which can have a positive impact on brain health. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps to calm the mind and reduce anxiety.

2. Improved Blood Circulation: By applying pressure to specific points on the feet or hands, reflexology improves blood circulation throughout the body, including the brain. This increased blood flow can enhance brain function and improve cognitive abilities.

3. Enhanced Sleep Quality: Reflexology has been shown to improve sleep quality, which is essential for optimal brain health. By reducing stress and promoting relaxation, reflexology can help regulate sleep patterns and ensure restful sleep.

4. Pain Relief: Reflexology can help alleviate headaches and migraines, which are often associated with brain health issues. By targeting specific reflex points, reflexology stimulates the release of endorphins, which act as natural painkillers.

5. Mental Clarity and Focus: Reflexology can enhance mental clarity and focus by reducing mental fatigue and improving concentration. It helps to clear the mind, improve cognitive function, and increase alertness.

6. Emotional Wellbeing: Reflexology can have a positive impact on emotional wellbeing, which is closely linked to brain health. It helps to reduce anxiety, depression, and mood swings, promoting a sense of overall emotional balance.

There's a super-easy reflex that you can access on your hands that will help you to instantly ground and centre.

The best thing is, you can do this anywhere anytime and nobody will really notice you're doing it! Maybe you're waiting to go into a job interview, or due to have a difficult conversation...

Try it now and see how you feel afterwards:

⭐ Using your thumb, trace down between your index and middle finger on the opposite hand
⭐ You should feel a natural dip, as marked on the hand map
⭐ Apply gentle but firm pressure – it may feel tender
⭐ Then, with your feet on the floor, take three deep, calming breaths
⭐ Once you feel ready, repeat on the opposite hand

Most reflexology sessions involve accessing the reflex to the solar plexus on the feet, to help promote a deeper relaxation. It's really common for a client to naturally let out a sigh when it's accessed.

So what exactly is the solar plexus?

The solar plexus is a bundle of nerves that sit behind your stomach. It's a nerve centre for the autonomic nervous system, which relates to your automatic bodily functions (those that happen without your conscious effort) such as your heart rate and digestion.

It forms part of your sympathetic nervous system, which is your fight or flight response and how you respond to stress.

The solar plexus is an area that’s sensitive to our feelings and emotions – it may be a place in the body where you feel emotions more intensely.

As a chakra, the solar plexus is linked to your sense of self, to confidence and self-esteem.
