🌱 Spring in Albany brings more than wildflowers and clear skies — it’s a season of renewal and fresh energy. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, spring is connected to the Liver and the Wood element, representing growth, vision, and new beginnings.

As the whales migrate along our coast, birdsong bursts into the air and flowers bloom across the Porongurups, your body too is ready to shake off winter’s stillness and move into Springtime flow. Acupuncture can help support this seasonal shift by restoring balance, easing stagnation, and nourishing your energy.

Step into spring with clarity, vitality, and a sense of fresh possibility 🌼🌱

Wrap up this winter Great Southern Folk!! 🌬🧣🧤🧥💨

West Oz has just endured one of its coldest and wettest months in recent memory...

The state saw three cold fronts move through south-west WA consecutively in one week, the last of which brought widespread showers and thunderstorms and very very chilly daytime temps.

August will kick off with another soaking for southern parts of the state as a powerful cold front brings more widespread rain and strong winds.

In traditional Chinese medicine, Wind is considered as the ‘chief’ cause of many diseases.

Harsh environmental wind can easily invade the body, agitate our Qi and unsettle our grounding with the Earth.

Protect your head, neck & shoulders from exposure to excessive wind.

Take this opportunity to slow down and conserve energy.

Winter has definitely arrived in the Great Southern ❄️ 🧣🧤

As temperatures drop, we naturally crave warmth, rest and nourishment.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), winter is the season of the Kidney - the root of our energy and vitality.

Ideas of how to support your health and wellness during winter:

🍲 Warming Foods:
Bone broth, to support Qi & Blood
Black sesame seeds (Tahini), to nourish the Kidneys
Walnuts, to strengthen our Yang energy
Goji berries, to boost immunity & Yin

🌿 Herbal Allies:
Astragalus (Huang Qi), to strengthen the immune system
Reishi mushroom, to calm the spirit and boost resilience
Ginger, to warm the stomach and dispel cold

🥣 Nutrition Tip:
Focus on cooked, hearty meals like soups, stews, slow-cooks, broths and congees.
This will preserve digestive fire (Yang) and help you stay balanced throughout the colder months.

Pause & slow down. Nourish deeply. Rest intentionally, and allow food and herbs to become your winter support.

Ohh, and you can always boost your immunity with regular acupuncture and tune-up sessions too! ☯

News just in 🗣
Acupuncture is considered effective for Insomnia.

A new Umbrella Review has found high quality evidence that Acupuncture is effective for improving overall sleep quality and could also improve anxiety and depression.

An umbrella review, also known as a review of reviews, is a systematic synthesis of evidence from multiple systematic reviews and meta-analyses on a specific topic. It aims to provide a broad overview of a research area by integrating findings from various reviews, rather than focusing on primary studies. Umbrella reviews are considered a high level of evidence synthesis, useful for informing healthcare decision-making and identifying areas for further research

6 Tips For Staying Well This Winter

Winter is the time of Yin energy. As much as you can, slow down the pace – just as nature does.

#1 Keep warm to prevent ‘cold’ symptoms
Protect your neck from our Great Southern winds! Wind is considered the ‘chief cause’ of 100 diseases.
Wrap up and wear a scarf to protect your neck.

#2 Stay home and get restful sleep
Slow down when you can to conserve your energy. Stillness should be your priority.

#3 Turn your attention inward
Make time for journalling, meditation, deeper contemplation and heart-warming conversations.

#4 Choose gentle, flowing forms of exercise
Try Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Yoga or short walks. Help to conserve your Qi by avoiding strenuous exercise.

#5 Support your immune system
Tools like acupuncture can help. For colds, steep slices of ginger and chopped spring onion in hot water. For coughs, eat stewed pears. Avoid lemons – they lock pathogens into the body.

#6 Opt for warming foods that nourish
During wintertime, you should prioritise warm, nourishing foods that are easy to digest. Think soups, stews and slow-cooked meals. Use seasonal root veg and incorporate bone broths and rich wholesome stocks. Dishes with whole grains, legumes and warming spices are recommended. Foods that nourish your kidney energy (your vital essence) are important: black beans, seaweed, goji berries, ginseng, black sesame seeds, beetroots, sweet potatoes, parsnips, carrots and walnuts.

Ever wondered what the amazing healing warmth is that you are lying on during your acupuncture treatment??

BioMat® is more than just a heated mat...

Unlike a conventional electric blanket which uses electric coils to create heat, the BioMat® uses a combination of 17 layers of interwoven natural fabrics and gem stones to generate Far-Infrared Rays which are then transferred to the body as heat.

BioMat® is a 4-in-1 wellness experience designed to help you rest, heal, recharge and recover.

💆‍♂️ Reduces Stress – Infrared heat and negative ions work together to calm the central nervous system, lower cortisol levels, and promote deep relaxation.

🔥 Relieves Pain – Deep-penetrating infrared therapy supports circulation, reduces inflammation, soothes tired & tense muscles, and provides natural relief for everyday aches and pains.

⚡ Boosts Energy – By enhancing circulation and oxygen flow, BioMat® helps recharge your body naturally, leaving you feeling refreshed and revitalised.

🌙 Improves Sleep – BioMat® helps regulate melatonin production, ease muscle tension, and create the perfect conditions for restorative sleep.

✨ The BioMat® goes a little deeper - literally.
♨️ Far-Infrared Heat penetrates upto 6 inches to reduce inflammation at a cellular level.
🧲 Negative Ions calm your nervous system + lower cortisol levels
💎 Amethyst + Tourmaline Crystals amplify healing from the inside out.

Acupuncture encompasses various styles & techniques, which are all based on the foundation principles of balancing Qi (our life-force) via energy flow through our body’s channels.

One such style is the Dr Tan Balance Method. This particular style of acupuncture works by ‘balancing’ the body distally by needling the opposite or mirrored body part to heal an affected area.
Think of it as a micro-system within the existing channel correlation with a paired connection.

So, needling the wrist on one side of the body, aims to heal your injured ankle on the opposite side...
