Bodywork on Bushby Emmett Technique is a safe and simple muscle release therapy used to address pain and discomfort. Reiki is an energy based therapy that enhances healing.

MSTR is a scar tissue release. The AromaTouch is a simple yet powerful essential oil experience. MY STORY & INFORMATION ON THE THERAPIES

I first experienced and trained in Reiki in 1995. I was beginning my journey into living and experiencing my life in a different and more spiritual way and exploring the practices and therapies that might enable me to do this. In 2022 I became a Reiki Master and now I enjoy empowering others to use this wonderful therapy. In 2013 after having experienced the benefits of Emmett Technique, I undertook the first levels of training. I have currently attained all the competencies up to EP6 practitioner training. I love how simple and effective this technique is and how my business is built up on referrals from happy clients. In 2017, having used essential oils for over 30 years, I rediscovered how important they are for our moods, emotions and well-being, and trained in AromaTouch technique. Most recently I became a MSTR practitioner - an innovative and effective hands-on therapy for the treatment of scar tissue. I am continually amazed at how transformative this treatment can be. I have also practiced Tai Chi and Qigong for over 25 years and believe that we all have the power to implement positive change in our bodies. Sometimes our body needs assistance in enabling this process to begin. Relieving pain and discomfort, and allowing healing to take place on a physical, emotional and spiritual level, can be the first step towards good health. Emmett, Reiki, MSTR and essential oils, either alone or combines might be just the support you need. I have an honours degree in Psychology, experience working with children over many years and hold a current Working with Children Check. Reiki appointments can also be done by 'Distance Healing'. EMMETT TECHNIQUE
Emmett Technique is a safe and simple muscle release therapy developed by Remedial Therapist Ross Emmett. It is used to address pain and discomfort, improve body movement and can restore a positive emotional state. Emmett Technique is a special form of body therapy that involves application of light finger pressure at specific points. These are in sequences that enable gentle releases for common problems which include neck, shoulder and back pain. Techniques derived from Ross's observation skills are also integrated within the treatment to encourage homeostasis. The Emmett Technique sequence of muscle activation points can unlock muscle memory. This activation gives the brain the opportunity to re-evaluate the initial activator that created the neuromuscular problem for that client. Emmett Technique can be used as an effective adjunct to enhance the treatment value of other types of muscle release and neuro-musculoskeletal therapies. The therapy addresses tissues that may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints, or other connective tissue (fascia), as well as lymphatic vessels, or organs of the gastrointestinal system. Ross Emmett's "Emmett Technique” has been growing in popularity worldwide since he first started teaching the technique in 1999. It is a powerful standalone technique in its own right, or can be used in a truly complementary way with any other body work or exercise system, offering a valuable addition to those seeking to ease pain and discomfort or restore musculoskeletal function. MSTR®
MSTR® ( MCLOUGHLIN SCAR TISSUE RELEASE®) is an innovative, pain-free, natural method of helping you with your scars. Gentle, finger-tip pressure is applied to the area to help free the restrictions in the scar. No force is involved and the work is always applied within your tolerance. According to research, if a scar is left untreated it may make other therapeutic interventions less effective or not last as long. Even though your scar may be many years old this may be the release your body has been searching for. Often just one or two sessions can produce dramatic changes that you can see and feel! Scars may have a huge influence on our presenting problems. They can
cause:
• restrictions in the fascia
• reduction in blood and lymph flow
• weaken muscular strength
• reduce the flow of energy
• inhibit joint movement

McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release® work is suitable for post-surgical scars such as:
•mastectomy, lumpectomy etc
•appendix, gall bladder etc
•hysterectomy, C-section
•joint replacement scars – knee, hip etc
And may be considered for burn scars, trauma wounds, facial scars, muscle tears etc.. REIKI is a non-invasive, gentle, yet powerful method of healing that enhances the body's natural healing ability and promotes wellbeing. Reiki helps to heal mind, body and spirit, by accelerating the body's own ability to heal itself physically, and by opening the mind to the emotional and mental causes of disease and pain. A Reiki treatment can stand on its own as a healing practice and can also safely be used to support orthodox and complementary medicine. Reiki doesn't interfere with or diminish the intended effects of other health or medical practices. Reiki energy is accessed by the practitioner during the treatment through channelling of the Universal Life Energy through the hands. During a treatment session, the flow of energy is typically experienced as warmth, but it may also be felt as a fine tingling, a tremor, or even a deep chill. For most people Reiki is experienced as tension dropping away and the mind becoming still, which in turn leads to a deep sense of relaxation, and an overall sense of well-being. There might also be an emotional release as old emotional conflicts start to melt away. The Usui System of Reiki Healing, is the most commonly found modality although this system has evolved into different forms. A common element of many forms of Reiki is a set of principles or precepts. While there are variations in the expression and interpretation of the precepts, they are all based on the original teachings of Mikao Usui. AROMATOUCH

Often when clients come in and show me they can hardly move their neck and head to see over their shoulders - if they can even get their chin anywhere near their shoulder! - I do one of my favourite releases ... then they have movement again, and often report they haven't been able to see that far behind them for ages! Love it 😍

What is fascia? I've been asked that question many times by clients. Normally I tell them it's the collagenous, fibrous, connective tissues in our body. Whatever movement we do, the fascia is all the fibres used to move and distribute forces evenly around the body. It is involved in distributing, connecting and sharing the information of any movement in the body....

So many people come to me with sore shoulders. Here's a little bit of info on why some areas are hurting or not moving freely. 🤔

To pair with the biceps - here is the matching muscle at the back of the arm - Triceps.
They work together to give functional movement - allowing all sorts of activities of daily living, work and sporting activities to go smoothly.

I regularly get clients for lymphatic drainage. It's such a gentle and enjoyable treatment too. ☺️

An 82-year-old client initially sought help for pain relief and requested a lymphatic treatment using the EMMETT Technique. One of our skilled practitioners supported the client and said the response has been amazing.

After just a few sessions, the client experienced significant improvements:
💤 Sleeping much better
👣 Legs reduced in size due to decreased
water retention
🧘‍♀️ Better balance
🌸 Overall, feeling much better and more vibrant

It’s incredibly rewarding to help someone at this age feel better and cope with life more comfortably.

A lot of people ask me what the Emmett Technique is, and how does it work when 'you are hardly touching me!' This offers an explanation.

The debate always seems to be gentle therapy or deep tissue treatments. Certainly the EMMETT technique can be classed as gentle and can be such a surprise for many new clients when finger tip touch can bring such quick results.

There are scientific studies and neuroscience-based insights that support the idea that gentle touch can be more effective—or at least more appropriate—than deep pressure, particularly in contexts like chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and nervous system regulation. Here are some key references and concepts to back this up:

🧠 1.
Gate Control Theory of Pain

Melzack & Wall (1965)
This foundational theory explains that non-painful input (like soft touch) can “close the gate” to painful input in the spinal cord, blocking pain sensations from reaching the brain.
Deep pressure can sometimes stimulate nociceptors (pain receptors), opening the gate instead.

🌿 2.
C-Tactile (CT) Afferents – Nerves That Respond to Gentle Touch
Studies have identified a type of nerve fiber—C-tactile afferents—that responds specifically to slow, gentle, pleasant touch and sends soothing signals to the brain. These signals help regulate the emotional and pain-processing areas of the brain.

Löken, L. S., Wessberg, J., Morrison, I., McGlone, F., & Olausson, H. (2009). Coding of pleasant touch by unmyelinated afferents in humans. Nature Neuroscience, 12(5), 547–548.
DOI: 10.1038/nn.2312

💥 3.
Central Sensitization in Chronic Pain
In conditions like fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome, the nervous system is sensitized and overreacts to pressure. Deep pressure may worsen symptoms, while gentle, non-threatening input can help regulate and calm the system.

Yunus, M. B. (2007). Central sensitivity syndromes: a new paradigm and group nosology for fibromyalgia and overlapping conditions. Current Rheumatology Reviews, 3(3), 121–134.
DOI: 10.2174/157339707781386194

🧘 4.
Touch and the Parasympathetic Nervous System
Gentle touch has been shown to stimulate the parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) system, which helps the body calm down, reduce pain, and enter healing states.

Field, T. (2010). Touch for socioemotional and physical well-being: A review. Developmental Review, 30(4), 367–383.
DOI: 10.1016/j.dr.2011.01.001

🧩 Summary
Gentle touch communicates safety and comfort to the nervous system.
It’s more suitable for pain-sensitive or trauma-affected bodies.
It’s backed by both neuroscience and clinical research.

The EMMETT Technique complements other therapies beautifully 😀

Whether you're seeing a physiotherapist, osteopath, chiropractor, or doing regular movement work like pilates or yoga, the EMMETT Technique may help enhance those results.

That’s because it works with the body’s own feedback systems, without overstimulation.

Practitioners often call it the “missing link” in their toolkit, adding clarity and precision to their work.
