Farewell, Colleen 💜🧡

Recently we bid a heartfelt farewell to our wonderful Colleen McRae, who has been with Clarence Estate for many years.

Colleen’s departure is truly a great loss to our community, but we are so excited for her as she begins this new chapter of retirement and her move to Donnybrook.

Your legacy will live on at Clarence, and you will always be appreciated for the care, dedication, and warmth you brought to both community clients and staff. You have made a lasting impact that will not be forgotten.

Wishing you all the very best for a happy, relaxing, and well-deserved retirement!

Lighting the Sound 💜

Residents recently enjoyed a wonderful evening out attending Light the Sound Albany WA, a spectacular immersive light and sound experience held along Albany’s iconic waterfront. This unique event transformed the harbour into a glowing canvas of colour, music, and storytelling, celebrating the region’s history, culture, and natural beauty.

The evening began with a relaxing stop at The View Restaurant, where residents indulged in a cheese platter paired with a drink of their choice while taking in the stunning outlook. As the night got darker, anticipation built before heading down to watch the lights come to life across the harbour.

The group then made their way outdoors, where the display was at its most breathtaking. Vibrant colours created a truly memorable experience for all.
Residents thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to head out at night, something a little different from the usual routine, and to be part of a once-in-a-lifetime event for many.

Cycling Without Age in the sunshine 🌞

Our residential clients recently enjoyed a wonderful outing with Cycling Without Age, making the most of the sunshine while it’s still sticking around!

There’s nothing quite like the fresh air, a gentle ride, and good company to lift everyone’s spirits, and this outing delivered all that and more.

Residents had a fantastic time taking in the scenery, sharing a few laughs, and soaking up the day.

Adding to the excitement, Gail Hasard, our former Administration Officer, surprised everyone by popping down to say a cheerful g’day! It was a lovely moment, and her visit brought plenty of smiles to both residents and staff.

A perfect little adventure!

Our regular Colour & Canvas session produced some new works of art from our community attendees.

From Easter-themed paintings to landscapes, the opportunity to express creativity through paint and colour was a really valuable experience.

Splashdown Fun 💦

What a fun-filled afternoon our annual Clarence Estate Splashdown turned out to be!

Whether you were right in the action or wisely chose to stay dry and enjoy the show, there was plenty of laughter to go around.

This much-loved tradition, which began as part of a Red Nose Day fundraiser, continues to be a highlight on our calendar each year - especially thanks to resident Stuart Schmidt, who makes sure we never forget to bring the water fight back!

Armed with water pistols and super soakers (and yes… someone even got hold of the hoses!), the chaos quickly unfolded. Staff and residents alike were ducking, weaving, and laughing as the friendly water battle took over.

A big thank you to everyone who joined in and embraced the fun.

Moments like these bring so much joy to our residents and are a wonderful reminder that, at the end of the day, we’re all human.

Valma and Mya jump aboard the CWA trishaw 🛺

The Cycling Without Age Mount Barker branch continues to provide free rides for members of the community on the first Monday of every month, departing from the Mount Barker Community Resource Centre.

This wonderful initiative offers clients to enjoy the fresh air, take in the local sites, and experience the simple joy of a bike ride in a safe and supported way.

Pictured is our lovely client Valma Baggs alongside our Home Care Manager Mya, both ready to set sail on an adventure using the service.

We are grateful for programs like Cycling Without Age that promote inclusion and the joy of getting out and about in our beautiful community.

All aboard the Clarence bus 🚌

Our Thursday Community Bus outings continue to be a much-loved highlight, giving clients the opportunity to explore the beautiful Great Southern region while enjoying wonderful company along the way.

The photos featured this month capture a recent adventure to the Albany Historic Forts. Clients made the most of the visit by utilising the golf buggies to travel comfortably to the top of the hill, where they were rewarded with a scenic view overlooking Albany’s stunning coastline.

Morning tea was enjoyed at the summit, with plenty of conversation, laughter, and appreciation for the breathtaking surroundings.

While the weather may not have been quite as kind as we had hoped, it certainly didn’t dampen spirits. Everyone embraced the experience, demonstrating resilience, good humour, and a sense of adventure.

Sometimes it’s the shared moments, even the windy ones, that make outings like these so memorable.
These trips provide more than just sightseeing; they foster connection and the joy of getting out and about in our local community. We look forward to many more Thursday explorations across the Great Southern in the months ahead.

Coastal views for Colour & Canvas workshop 🎨

Our recent Colour & Canvas workshops held in both Albany and Denmark have once again been a success.

This month's clients were guided step-by-step through creating their own beautiful beach themed artwork. From blending ocean blues and adding sandy textures, participants embraced the process with enthusiasm and creativity. The relaxed, supportive environment allowed everyone to work at their own pace while building confidence in their artistic skills.

These workshops continue to grow in popularity, not only for the creative outlet they provide, but also for the social connection. It is always a pleasure to see conversations flowing, laughter shared, and the encouragement offered around the tables.

The photos say it all... Proud smiles and finished canvases held up for all to admire. The sense of accomplishment at the end of each workshop is something special.

We are excited to announce that Colour & Canvas will be coming to Mt Barker on April 16.

We look forward to extending this creative experience to even more of our community and continuing to celebrate the talent within our clients.

We loved our Valentine's craft session 💕

In February, our residents recently took part in a simple Valentine's craft activity, putting their fine motor skills to work.

Each person chose their own, coloured heart and carefully scrunched tissue paper to decorate it, creating vibrant designs. The room was filled with concentration, creativity and plenty of chatter amongst all.

It was lovely to see the finished hearts bring a beautiful burst of colour to Clarence.
A little craft can brighten anyone's day!

Chinese feast celebrates Year of the Horse 🍜

To celebrate Chinese New Year, our Clarence Chef, Michael, and maintenance man Dave hosted a special Chinese cooking demonstration for residents.

The afternoon featured a delicious selection including honey chicken with honey soy sauce, crispy spring rolls, and a refreshing lychee sago pudding. Residents enjoyed watching the dishes come together while learning about traditional flavours and cooking techniques.

To add to the festive spirit, Chinese red envelopes filled with "lucky" money were prepared and handed out to those who answered quiz questions correctly. Fun facts about Chinese new year and traditions were shared throughout the session, bringing culture and a little friendly competition into the room.

The result? Full bellies, happy smiles, and residents leaving the session satisfied after enjoying their own taste of China.

Three of the best at Live Lighter Aged Care Games 🥇

Our three Clarence teams - the Clarence Cheetahs (Residential), the Clarence Conquerors (Albany Home Care), and the Denmark Diamonds (Denmark Home Care), proudly represented Clarence Estate at this year’s Live Lighter Games at the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre.

For our Clarence Estate Cheetahs, this year was extra special. After many years of health restrictions keeping our residential consumers from competing, they finally made their long-awaited return, and they came back with huge smiles, plenty of spirit, and a name with a bit of history.

The “Cheetahs” nickname comes from an old rumour that we were once caught “cheating” (cue the eye roll), but this year they showed nothing but teamwork, enthusiasm, and positivity.

Our Clarence Conquerors from the Albany Community Centre have competed in previous years and once again did us proud, securing second place overall! The excitement from everyone involved was brilliant.

Our Denmark Diamonds, also from our Home Care program, returned to the Games and put in an amazing effort, showing great sportsmanship, energy, and plenty of laughs.

Across all three Clarence teams, there was plenty of friendly banter, and good times from start to finish. The event included chair hockey, pass ball, beanbag
toss, and skittles, with teams rotating through each challenge to take on all their rivals.

Everyone enjoyed a shared Subway-and-chips lunch between events, keeping everyone fuelled and ready for the next round.

Before presentations, the staff took to the floor for a special event, and it was hilarious! Plenty of laughs were had by everyone watching, and it added a
perfect, light-hearted finish to an already fantastic day.

A huge well done to all involved in organising such a well-run and inclusive event for older people across the Great Southern.
