Thank you to everyone that supported our Save the Hub campaign...it worked :)

The Great Southern Community Hub, an initiative of Pivot Support Services, has received a major boost with confirmation of new funding that will ensure the Hub’s continued operation and expansion over the next three years. Thanks to a generous contribution from the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation, the Hub will now be able to extend its critical services, which support vulnerable communities in the Great Southern region.
The Stan Perron Charitable Foundation recognised the profound impact that a community-driven approach to tackling disadvantage can have in regions like the Great Southern, stating that the Hub is "a great example of a locally built initiative that has demonstrated its effectiveness and impact to the community."
Marcelle Cannon, Chairperson of Pivot Support Services, expressed gratitude and pride in the community's efforts to secure the Hub's future: “This is a victory for our community. The outpouring of support when the Hub faced closure has been enormous. Our petitions gathered close to 2,000 signatures, social media was buzzing, and the topic became central to conversations in the media and throughout the region."
Ms. Cannon further highlighted the determination of the organisation to fight for the Hub: “As a Committee of Management, we were not going to let this service close without a fight. Over the last five years, we’ve developed a successful framework for addressing disadvantage that works. It’s become the heart of our operations, and we see its positive impact on people’s lives every day.”
The funding, which will support not only the Hub’s existing operations in Albany but also its expansion into Katanning, comes at a crucial time. With strong backing from the local community, service agencies, Albany Health Campus, the City of Albany, and various service groups, the Hub has grown into an indispensable resource for the region.
The Albany Community Foundation was one of many organisations to rally behind the campaign to save the Hub. Their support, along with similar pledges from like-minded organisations across the country, helped galvanize the community effort.
Ian Neil, CEO of Pivot Support Services, sees the new funding as a stepping stone: "This funding is just the start. The Stan Perron Charitable Foundation has enabled us to strengthen our resources in Albany and expand our reach to Katanning. Over the next three years, we’ll build a regional service that will positively impact the lives of over 5,000 people."
Mr. Neil also emphasised the potential for the Hub’s model to be replicated across Australia: "We’ve proven that a Hub like this can work in a regional context. The Stan Perron Charitable Foundation’s support will allow us to build something special here, which can be replicated in other parts of the country."

đź’ĄWe Need Your Help More Than Ever!đź’Ą

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who has joined our campaign and signed the petition to keep Pivot’s Community Hub open. Over the past six weeks, we've shared stories in the Albany Advertiser and on social media, highlighting the critical work we do and the life-changing impact of the Community Hub. Your support has been incredible, but our fight is not over yet.

The Urgent Need👇

Albany’s homeless population is rising, and our Community Hub is overwhelmed. Last month, out of 44 people who sought help from our dedicated support worker Danica, 26 were homeless. Sadly, she was unable to help them all. “Every day, I hold people’s hands as they realize their only choice is to sleep rough, live in their car, a tent, couch surf, or head to Perth for a shelter,” says Danica. Imagine the despair and hopelessness these individuals feel.

Without external funding, The Community Hub will close on September 30th. This closure would be devastating, especially for Albany’s Indigenous community. Menang Elder, Vernice Gillies, emphasizes, “The situation for homeless and needy people strips them of their dignity, pride, and health, both mental and physical.” These are our neighbors, our friends, our family members – real people who need our help.

Our Vision👇

For five years, The Hub has been a sanctuary for those in desperate need, serving over 2500 walk-ins and impacting around 8,500 lives. We provide more than just basic necessities; we offer hope, dignity, and a path to a better life. With just $1 million over three years, we can:

👉Increase staff to meet growing demand and continue our vital operations
👉Establish an office in Katanning to reach more people
👉Design and build a purpose-built facility for emergency and short-term accommodation

We know The Hub works, and with your support, we can positively impact over 5000 lives by 2027.

🌟Together we can help save Pivot’s Community Hub!

For five years, Pivot’s Community Hub has been a beacon of hope, transforming lives and helping over 2000 people in need. But now, we face the heartbreaking reality of closure.

“Without external funding, The Hub will shut down on September 30th,” says Chairperson Marcelle Cannon. “We need your support to keep providing vital services like hot meals and tenancy advice.”

We know the Hub works, and we know how to make it better. Our approach is simple yet profoundly impactful. When someone walks through our doors, they are welcomed into an environment free of judgment. Our support workers spend the initial part of the meeting just listening, creating a safe space for individuals to share their struggles.

At the our Community Hub we offer practical support, providing emergency relief such as food or assistance in paying bills. But our care doesn't stop at immediate needs. We assess a person's overall situation across ten domains, including housing, finance, legal, physical, and mental health. If there are unmet needs, we provide direct support and referrals to specialized services, ensuring comprehensive care.

We want to keep the Hub going so we can keep providing the much needed care in Albany! But, despite submitting numerous proposals to the government for a three-year funding program, we have had no success. Without this crucial support, Pivot will no longer be able to provide these essential services to our community.

We are reaching out to our community to help keep our doors open!

Pivot’s Community Hub Faces Closure – Your Help is Crucial to Keep Hope Alive.

"It’s the only service where I feel safe." These words echo the sentiment of countless individuals who have found solace at Pivot's Community Hub. For five years, this beacon of hope has provided a safe space for thousands in crisis, ensuring they are not alone in their struggles. Yet, without financial support, this vital service is at risk of closing its doors at the end of September.

Imagine the impact on those who have nowhere else to turn. Pivot’s Community Hub has been a sanctuary, offering non-judgmental support and a listening ear. CEO Ian Neil shares a clients testimonial, “Pivot has helped me over the last 18 months, during that period I’ve gone from homeless to having my own home, job and I have my daughter. Pivot’s support and advice has been massive.”

The closure of the Community Hub will be a devastating blow to our community, stripping away a critical lifeline for those in need. We cannot let this happen. The financial reality is harsh, but with your help, we can make a difference.

🚨 SAVE ALBANY'S PIVOT COMMUNITY HUB 🚨

With the threat of closure looming, the future of Albany’s Pivot Community Hub is at risk. This vital resource, where Aboriginal people make up 40% of its clientele, faces shutting its doors by September 30th. Menang Elder, Vernice Gillies, emphasizes the devastating impact on the Indigenous community, who rely on the Hub for its intimate and tailored support.

💔 Vernice's words paint a heartbreaking picture: "Two young Aboriginal people came into my shop seeking accommodation. We couldn’t help. The Department of Housing couldn’t help. It’s hard to believe, in such a giving nation, that we couldn’t do anything."

Pivot Community Hub is more than just a support center—it’s a lifeline. Without state funding, this critical resource will be gone.
