Disabled Surfer Association Great Southern
Came about by the support of DSA South West (Bunker Bay - www.facebook.com/DisabledsurfersSw/) coming over for 3 years to ‘test the waters’ to see if a branch could develop in Albany and then in 2018 had our first regular surfing days. The Disabled Surfers Association Australia (http://disabledsurfers.org/)was established in 1986 by Gary Blaschke after a motorcycle accident which he lost his knee cap and under went extensive rehabilitation. Gary saw a void that needed to be filled as over the years, many surfers with disabilities have unfortunately, been loners with no one to help them get back into the water. Many suffer from disabilities that the general public would not consider a disability. From asthmatics to joint injuries to paraplegic, many members have found friendship, support and have renewed their interest in surfing. A total voluntary organisation, which sets world’s best practice for Disabled Surfers. The Disabled Surfers Association of Australia (DSAA) does not endorse any comments/photos/videos posted by non-committee members on this page. We support positive comments and images about the DSAA and equal inclusion for people with disabilities. Any negative/derogatory/abusive comments will be deleted and the person responsible will be blocked from this page. Any posting of unapproved events/products/etc will also be deleted and a warning issued to the person responsible. Let's keep it fun for everyone folks!
