I am very lucky that I was able to help Arnold the Staffy for the last 3 years of his life. Last week he went to doggy heaven at the age of 16. I received these beautiful flowers and card from his very special owner Jodie today. RIP Arnold, it was a pleasure to spend time with you. 🐾 🌈

Today, my beautiful Bessie girl went to doggy heaven. We adopted her as a puppy 15 years ago from and she has been the most devoted and loving companion. Thank you Bessie for your stubbornness, your loyalty and your love. Thank you for having us as your humans. Thank you to the incredibly kind Dr Donald and Simone at . We appreciate the wonderful care you have given to our much loved Bessie today and over the years. 🐾 🌈

Many of us have floorboards and tiles in our home, but these surfaces can be quite challenging for more mature dogs and those recovering from an injury.
🐾 Proprioception (joint position awareness) is often referred to as the sixth sense. It refers to the awareness of posture, balance or position.
🐾 Loss of proprioception occurs in dogs with injuries and osteoarthritis which is one of the reasons dogs find floorboards and tiles more slippery and challenging to stand and move around on.
🐾 Slipping and sliding occurs far less on more stable surfaces such as carpet.
🐾 A very helpful strategy that I discuss with many of my patients is to put down some non-slip matting in the areas that your dog will be walking. Yoga mats, rubber mats, carpet off cuts, rugs or runners can all work.
🐾 My Bessie is 15 so we have had some rubber backed matting inside our home permanently for a while. We also have a hallway runner that she walks on from the mats when going outside. This helps her to feel more stable and reduces the risk that she will slip and fall.
🐾 Put yourself in your dogs position. If you had a sore back or knee, would you feel more stable walking around on floorboards in your socks or your runners? On carpet or on shiny tiles?
🐾 Easy to implement strategies such as this allow our dogs to recover well and feel more confident moving around in the home.

Came home from our afternoon stroll to find a special delivery on our doorstep for Eddie. Some sustainable pet food with thanks to Clare and Poppy the Labrador. Early reports from both Bessie and Eddie indicate that it’s a hit!

Like many, Wilson the border collie doesn’t seem thrilled about working from home. He is hoping that his humans make the most of their daily exercise allowance outside. Movement is so important for physical and mental wellbeing whether you have 2 or 4 legs! Who has been for their walk today?
