You know it’s summer when salad is on the menu every night, and it is filled with all the amazing summer fruits!

So lucky hubby visits on his way home from work to keep us fully stocked of the best berries you can get! Even their “seconds”, which he came home with 3kg of today, are a million times better than what you will find in the supermarket.

And thanks to for the best fundraiser and supplying us with mangoes for days!

Thanks to Lavington Public School for inviting me to their Little Leaps Parent session. It is so important to set our kids up with lunchboxes that will support their learning from their kindergarten/foundation/prep years.

With an average of 200 lunchboxes per year per child, having a simple formula for packing lunchboxes is crucial to avoid overwhelm and falling into the traps of the mass marketing in the supermarkets.
These parents now have a 5 step simple strategy for packing lunchboxes to support them and their kids for many school years.

If you would like to learn more about this reach out to me or one of the amazing The Root Cause instructors in your area. 😊

Does your family Halloween? It’s a love/hate relationship for me. I love an excuse for dress ups, I love the joy the kids have going through the hunted houses & walking around the neighborhood with friends. I hate all the sugar, the waste & the sugar crashes!

So now Halloween is over & we’re left with all the “loot”. I was surprised this year the kids came home with more chocolate based products and far fewer of all the cheap candy with so many artificial colours etc.

They had their fill during the festivities & went to bed feeling rather ill! Now the loot is put away. Personally I hope they forget about it, most likely we will ration it out. Have a couple of days of afternoon school sweets then it might just disappear! I will throw out the things they don’t like & those high in nasties, stash the rest for the strategic pull out for weekends or parties etc. Definitely not in lunchboxes.

What’s your plan?

Fun & games!

Do your kids sometimes complain that it’s not fair, they don’t feel normal, because they eat differently to everyone else at school?

Are you concerned about food being used at rewards at school, the food on offer at the canteen or what’s provided at school sporting events?

Be your kids health hero🦸‍♀️, and use your voice to tell your school that you would love fun and interactive food literacy programs at your school in 2025.

The Root Cause empowers children, parents, and teachers to discover and learn about food in a fun, peer-inclusive environment, transforming food in to a fun experiment that creates lifelong nourishing friendships with food.

But we need your help.🙏 Teachers and leaders tell us they are often so busy, they do not get a chance to read information sent to them by organisations like ours. They have told us they do listen to parents though. SO YOUR VOICE MATTERS.🗣

Come along to our training session, and allow Bel, our founder and Author of The Lunchbox Effect, to give you all the information you need to confidently advocate for our programs at your school. 💪

It’s time to normalise eating a wide variety of food, but especially vegetables and fruits, foods grown in nature that support our kids wellbeing - their learning, behaviour, resilience and overall health. 🌈 🍎🥦

Will you be your kids health hero? 🦸‍♀️

Join Bel on Thursday 24th October at 8pm AEDT.

Thanks for standing with us for children’s health. You can help children and parents across Australia by sharing this post too.

Why you may ask have I posted a picture of an empty container? Well my lunch today was a “boring basic salad” as I told to my colleague as we were picking up zombreros for their lunch. The Zombreros smelt so good & I was so hungry. But boy did my “boring basic salad” deliver! What started as a bit of lettuce, cuc, caps & tomato was topped with some warmed left over roast chicken (kept moist with the delicious liquid from the roast), a sprinkle of mixed seeds & nuts, a little avo & a squeeze of lemon juice.

So whilst takeaway food may often be tempting, it really is that easy to turn a “boring basic salad” into a flavorful meal.

Now back to normal programming. 🚑🚑

Happy 1st July.

How are your going to support our environment and focus on Plastic Free July?

What we eat and drink is inextricable to our one planet earth. 🌍

This is one of our key messages in our school wellbeing partnership - Making Friends with Food by The Root Cause®️.

It’s actually amazing how kids take to this message. They all went to do the best they can for the planet and the other species we share it with.

Anyways, I’m sharing all this because it’s almost Plastic Free July. An opportunity for all of us to help our amazing planet. Take a look at this graphic of 31 days of simple things we can all do.

Take a look at the Plastic Free July page too, maybe even sign up for the pledge. Get your kids involved. Have fun with it.

Here’s a link to the page

Pls share widely. Thanks.

Food is foundational to wellbeing. Science shows food can impact mood, learning, behaviour and school life outcomes.

That’s why our innovative food literacy program looks at specifically what each stakeholder group in a school needs support with.

👧🏻👦🏻 for students, we help them learn that food is a fun experiment.

🧑🏻👨🏻🧓🏻 for parents and caregivers, its about helping to simplify feeding their family and feeling great about it.

🧑‍🏫👨‍🏫 for the school, it’s about helping them integrate simple messages about food into what they are already doing. Nutrition becomes an improvement tool in school to improve school results.

If you’d like to learn more about our innovative Making Friends with Food partnership or our Mad Food Science Incursion, join TODAY for an information session at 4pm AEDT (Tues 13/2). Even if you can’t be there live, save your seat and we’ll send you a replay.

Do you have a child who has just started their first year of school?
If so, we have a perfect workshop for you and your preppy. Over the next two Wednesdays, I will be hosting a series of interactive and engaging 60-minute workshops to teach children the importance of healthy eating habits.

Our goal is to empower children to make informed decisions about their food choices, which will help them fuel their bodies for everyday activities such as playing, learning, and growing. During our workshops, we will cover a range of topics, including:

👍🏻 How to take responsibility for what they eat
👅 How to taste food with their tongue, not their eyes 👀
🥦🥕 Why their bodies need a variety of fruits and vegetables every day 🍌🍏
🔎 How to be and ingredient detective

If you're interested in helping your child make healthier food choices, please come along to our event. Book your tickets now - https://www.trybooking.com/CPCRP

We can't wait to meet you and give your child the tools and knowledge they need to live a healthy, happy life.

How fantastic is this rainbow garden created with one of our South Australian partner schools and raw_nourish?

Brilliant.

Are you interested in learning more about how we can partner with your school and support your school community in Making Friends with Food? Please reach out.

Schools Back!

And so are lunchboxes!

This rainbow garden was created to remind students, teachers and parents to eat a rainbow of vegetables and fruit everyday!

It houses the scrap container in the middle and is surrounded by strawberries accessible for students to pick.

This simple visual is one of the many things we assist schools in creating when we partner with them

We love getting the children involved in Making Friends With Food and understanding which foods are our best friends and take care of us. The impact this messaging brings in to schools is amazing, this school had year 5s asking for a vegetable and fruit break to be implemented again after it ended previous years before.

If you would like to know more about how we can partner with your school and the impact we can create together this year in standing for children’s health, please reach out 🥰
