One of the things that I’ve been trying to hold onto lately is from the lovely Fi at .au and it’s the phrase “Doing important work.”

As a business owner there is always work to be done. Becoming a mum has really shaken my weeks because I not only run a business but also keep a small human alive (with so so much help from my husband).

It’s hard sometimes for the occasions where I’m ‘stuck’ sitting down holding a toddler for a nap to not feel like a ‘waste of time’. To feel like I’m falling behind on my day or like I’m here forever.

I constantly remind myself that this is important work too! Raising a child that knows what it is to have loving parents, to have secure attachment with a caregiver, to have a safe space, is SUCH important work! I would almost argue it’s the most important work!

So when I’m feeling like the jobs are piling up, the house is getting more and more messy, the email inbox is growing, I have been reminding myself that this is important work too.

It’s a season, a really important one, and it won’t last forever. Contact naps are so rare for us now and I miss them.

You’re doing such important work Mumma, Dadda, grandparent, Aunty, Uncle, carer. Whoever you are to that child, you’re showing them they’re important and that’s what really matters ❤️

🌟 Why is play so important? 🤔
Play isn’t just fun — it’s a powerful way children’s brains develop and grow every day! When kids play, it:
🧠 Improves brain development by establishing new neural connections that support learning and memory
🎨 Sparks creativity and imagination, helping kids think outside the box
🧩 Boosts problem-solving skills by encouraging trial, error, and exploration
🧠 Enhances memory, allowing children to retain and apply new information
🎯 Improves attention and focus, setting them up for success in academic tasks and everyday life
Play also supports social skills, emotional resilience, and physical development — making it the foundation for confident, happy, and capable kids.
So, whether it’s building blocks, drawing, or running around outside, every moment of play is a step toward a brighter future. Let’s encourage more playtime every day! 💛✨

Language Milestone: 5 Years

By this age, most children speak clearly in full sentences, tell simple stories, and follow multi-step instructions with ease. They use language to express their feelings, share ideas, and enjoy engaging in back-and-forth conversations 💬🙌🏼
Five-year-olds are also starting to understand basic grammar rules and can ask questions to learn more about the world around them. ⁉️

If you have any concerns about your child’s language development, early support can make a big difference in helping them reach their full potential! 💙

Ever heard of an Allied Health Assistant (AHA) but not quite sure what they do?

AHAs are the behind-the-scenes heroes who work closely with our therapists to support your child’s therapy journey. 💪💛

They help children practice skills from their therapy sessions through fun, play-based activities — like obstacle courses, craft, games, or everyday routines 🧩🎨🧸
AHAs don’t design therapy plans, but they follow the goals set by your child’s OT or speechie to help build confidence, independence, and progress over time.
It’s all about extra support, more opportunities to learn, and turning therapy into real-life success 🤩

We truly couldn’t do what we do without them - we love our AHAs 💝💝

🌟 Boost Your Child’s Gross Motor Skills with These Fun Activities!
Building strong gross motor skills helps kids move, play, and explore the world around them with confidence. Try these simple ideas:
1️⃣ Encourage plenty of outdoor play — climbing, running, and jumping build strength and balance.
2️⃣ Introduce ball games like throwing, catching, or kicking to enhance coordination and timing.
3️⃣ Get moving with full-body activities like dancing, hopping, or skipping to engage muscles and improve control.
4️⃣ Use animal walks — think bear crawls, frog hops, or crab walks — to develop strength and body awareness.
Keep it fun and active — every step helps your child grow stronger! 💪

Meet the glue that holds it’s all together - our amazing Key Workers 🧩🤩

They support your child by bringing together input from Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and other professionals to create one clear, goal focused plan.

Key workers visit children in their home or school setting, gather all the important information (like past reports and diagnoses), and then work with our team to map out the next steps.

With guidance from our therapists, they help implement tailored programs so your child gets consistent support ✨

Our team truly wouldn’t run without them - they keep everything connected, consistent, and centred around what matters most: your child 💛

Overcoming Barriers to Therapy Access: Exploring the Hybrid Therapy Model ✨✨

Many families face barriers to therapy, such as long waitlists, travel demands, or living in rural areas. The My Word Health Hybrid Therapy Model offers a flexible, accessible solution by combining in-person and Telehealth support.

How it works:

An Allied Health Assistant (AHA) works directly with the child in their home, school, or community.
A Speech or Occupational Therapist joins via Telehealth to guide and adjust the session in real time.

This approach allows for:

✔️Consistent, context-based support ✔️Collaboration with families, educators, and carers
✔️Greater flexibility and affordability
✔️Evidence-based outcomes
✔️Hybrid Therapy helps bridge service gaps and ensures children can access the support they need — regardless of location.

Being a mum and a speech pathologist has really opened my eyes to a different perspective on healthcare.

Over the past few months we have been on the receiving end of health services for our son and I am ever so grateful to be in an area where we at least have some access to these things.

The tough reality though? Most rural areas don’t have much access to high quality health care. Now, even more than ever, we are staring down the barrel of more travel cuts to be made by the NDIS. It’s simply not ok.

I, alongside the My Word Health team, are extremely committed to continue to service our local kids and families, particularly those who need us to travel to them.

Who’s with me? 😃

Helping kids talk about feelings 🌟

Why use the zones of regulation? 🤔
💭 Identity their feelings
🔍 Be aware of what zone they’re in
🧠 Learn tools to get to the right zone for the moment

Things to remember 💡
Every zone is a good zone - they’re all part of being human 😃

Zones aren’t “bad” - they’re cues to how we feel and what we need 💙💚💛❤️

Our team works closely with families, educators, and other professionals to provide consistent compassionate care across all the spaces a child lives, plays and learns ✨✨✨

From big milestones to the tiniest of wins, we’re here to cheer them on 🏅🙌🏼💛

Some of the best opportunities to support your child’s speech are built into your day - bath time is one of the best 🛁🫧

Here are some simple ways to encourage language development during bath time:

💦 Narrate what’s happening: “Turn tap on”, “Splash Splash” “Wash Wash Wash”
👣 Talk about body parts: “Let’s wash your toes” “Rub your arms”
👕 Label toys and actions: “Take off your shirt” “Here’s the yellow duck” “squeeze the sponge”

Every small interaction helps build your child’s language skills step by step 🫧🚿💙
