Friday Faves: Buildzi Blocks 🧱✨

This week’s favourite is Buildzi Blocks — a bright, hands‑on building set that transforms play into powerful learning. With their unique shapes and balance‑based design, kids are drawn into experimenting, stacking, and problem‑solving in such a natural, playful way.

Buildzi Blocks are fantastic for developing key foundational skills, including:
*Fine Motor Strength & Coordination — grasping, stacking, and carefully placing pieces builds hand strength and control
*Visual‑Motor Integration — coordinating what the eyes see with precise hand movements
*Motor Planning & Problem‑Solving — figuring out which pieces fit, how to balance them, and how to rebuild when they fall
*Attention & Persistence — encouraging focus, trial‑and‑error, and sticking with a challenge
*Spatial Awareness — understanding size, shape, position, and balance during construction

Because they’re open‑ended, engaging, and just the right level of challenge, kids can play independently or collaboratively while building confidence and creativity. A great blend of fine motor development, cognitive growth, and creative play šŸ¤āœØšŸ§±

Happy Easter from all of us at Upside Down Therapy!

We hope your day is filled with joy, connection, and maybe just a little bit of chocolate!

Easter can be such a fun and exciting time — but it can also bring big energy, busy environments, and lots of sensory input for our little ones. So here are a few deas to support your child while still soaking up the magic of the day:

🐰 Create calm in the chaos
Balance out the excitement with quiet breaks — think a quiet corner, a favourite book, or some downtime between activities.
🄚 Sensory-friendly egg hunts
Mix it up! Try hiding eggs with different textures (soft, bumpy, squishy) or include movement clues (jump like a bunny, crawl like a chick) to support regulation through play.
šŸ« Chocolate with awareness
Exciting treats can bring big energy shifts — pairing chocolate with protein snacks or offering it after meals can help support more regulated bodies.
🌿 Get outside and move
Nature is one of the best regulators! A backyard hunt, park visit, or barefoot time in the grass can help reset busy nervous systems.
šŸ’› Follow your child’s lead
Some children will dive right into the fun, others may need a slower pace — both are perfectly okay. Supporting regulation starts with meeting them where they’re at.

Wishing all our families a safe, happy, and regulated Easter 🐣

Ever noticed your child avoiding tasks that need two hands - like cutting, getting dressed, or even opening a lunchbox? šŸ‘–āœ‚ļø
That foundational skill might be bilateral integration.

Our OT Skyla has written a new blog exploring what bilateral integration is, why it’s so important for everyday independence, and how it impacts your child’s movement, learning, and confidence.

From climbing and bike riding to writing and using scissors, bilateral integration underpins so many everyday skills. Skyla also shares simple, play‑based ways you can support this at home.

Friday Faves: Battleship Nail Board
Ā
This week’s Friday Favourite is our Battleship Nail Board (also known as a Geoboard). Using rubber bands to create shapes, patterns, and designs, kids love the hands‑on challenge and sense of accomplishment when the creation comes together.
Ā
This activity supports a wide range of skills including:
* Fine Motor Strength & Dexterity – stretching and placing rubber bands builds hand and finger strength
* Bilateral integration – using both hands together to stabilise the board and manipulate bands
* Visual–Motor Integration – coordinating what the eyes see with precise hand movements
* Visual Perception – recognising shapes, patterns, and spatial relationships
* Attention & Persistence – staying engaged through the challenge
* Social skills - Adding a racing element encourages shared play and practising win/ loss
Ā
Because of the beginning - expert challenges this task is easily graded. The geoboard can be used for free play,Ā  or following structured patterns - allowing kids to work at their own level while building confidence and problem‑solving skills. It’s a beautiful blend of creativity, concentration, and fine motor development, which is why we love using it in sessions šŸ’›āœØ
