Bulk billed. 20 minutes. Available year-round at Alexandra Medical Centre.

Heart disease often has no symptoms until it’s too late. A Heart Health Check is a 20-minute appointment with your GP to assess your risk of heart attack or stroke over the next five years — and help you take action early.

• You’re Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, aged 30 and over
• You have risk factors such as:
– Type 2 diabetes
– High blood pressure or cholesterol
– A family history of early heart disease
– Chronic kidney disease
– Severe mental illness

What’s involved?
• A discussion about your family history, lifestyle and medical background
• Blood pressure check
• Blood tests for cholesterol and blood sugar
• Use of the Australian Cardiovascular Risk Calculator
• A personalised plan to lower your risk — including lifestyle advice or medications if needed

Cost:
Heart Health Checks are fully bulk billed under Medicare for eligible patients.
