Stress is inevitable - but burnout doesn’t have to be.

By recognising early signs, setting healthy boundaries, and using practical coping tools, we can protect our mental health and build resilience.

These strategies aren’t about removing all stress, but about learning to manage it effectively - with awareness, rest, and support.

At MyLife Psychologists, we help clients develop evidence-based coping strategies that support long-term wellbeing.

Connection isn’t just “nice to have” - it’s essential for maintaining good mental health.

Research shows that meaningful relationships protect against depression and anxiety, help us cope with stress, and promote overall wellbeing. Whether it’s through friends, colleagues, family, or community groups, connection gives us a sense of safety and belonging - and that’s a powerful form of prevention.

Today is World Mental Health Day 💚 - a global reminder that our mental health is deeply connected to the people and communities around us.

This year’s theme from Mental Health Australia, “Connect with Your Community,” highlights how belonging and shared purpose protect wellbeing.
Community can take many forms:
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family and friends
🌳 A community garden or volunteer group
🎶 A choir or book club
🏳️‍🌈 An LGBTQIA+ network
🏃 A local running group
🏫 Your workplace or school
💬 Even online spaces where you feel understood

At MyLife Psychologists, we see connection as one of the most powerful protective factors for mental health. This World Mental Health Day, we encourage you to start a conversation, join a group, or simply reach out to someone who matters to you.

October is Mental Health Month 🌱. This year’s theme is “Taking Steps on Your Wellbeing Journey.”

Mental health isn’t a destination – it’s an ongoing process of noticing, adjusting, and caring for ourselves.
The campaign reminds us of three important steps:

1️⃣ Awareness – noticing when something feels different in your thoughts, feelings, or daily life.
2️⃣ Acknowledgment – recognising it’s okay to need help, and that reaching out is a sign of strength.
3️⃣ Action – taking steps to support your wellbeing, whether that’s talking to a friend, practising self-care, or seeing a psychologist.

Small actions add up. This month, let’s take time to reflect, check in on ourselves, and support the people around us.

What step are you taking this month? 💬

💜 Barriers to Women’s Mental Health Care

While women are more likely to experience anxiety and depression, many still face barriers to accessing the care they deserve. These include:
1️⃣ Cost of therapy: Limited Medicare rebatable sessions make support unaffordable for many.
2️⃣ Caring responsibilities: Women often juggle children, partners, and ageing parents, leaving little time for themselves.
3️⃣ Workload & burnout: Balancing career demands with home life can push self-care to the bottom of the list.
4️⃣ Stigma & judgment: Fear of being judged or dismissed still prevents some women from seeking help.
5️⃣ Cultural & systemic barriers: Language, cultural expectations, or lack of gender-sensitive services can limit access.

At MyLife Psychologists, we’re committed to breaking down these barriers by offering compassionate, flexible, and inclusive care. 🌸

If you’ve been thinking about therapy, this is your reminder: your wellbeing matters, and support is available.

💜 Eating Disorders & Women’s Mental Health

Eating disorders affect around 1 million Australians, with women more likely to be impacted. These are complex mental illnesses – not choices or phases – and they deserve understanding and support.

Early intervention makes recovery more likely. ✨ Therapy can help uncover underlying struggles, build healthier coping strategies, and support healing.

If you or someone you love is struggling, please know you are not alone. Recovery is possible, and help is available.
