June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month and we would like to help raise awareness around Bowel Cancer - the second most deadliest type of cancer in Australia.

It claims the lives of approximately 5200 people every year but can be treated if detected early.

The risk increases with age and people between the age of 50 to 74 are at a higher risk.

Although some amounts of good cholesterol are needed by the body to build cell walls and produce hormones, too much leads to health complications.

Some simple lifestyle changes to lower your cholesterol:

💪 Eat less saturated fat such as cakes, butter, coconut oil etc
💪 Eat food high in fibre
💪 Stay physically active

This Heart Week is about raising awareness about Heart Health and how important routine checks are.

👉 1 in 4 deaths are due to Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD)
👉 1619 hospitalisations a day are due to CVD
👉 More than half of Australian adults are living with 3 or more modifiable risk factors of CVD

Protect yourself from biters!
Use repellents and wear long pants and long-sleeved tops.

Mild and local reactions to a mosquito bite include:

👉 Redness
👉 Swelling
👉 Burning pain
👉 Itching

Treat the affected area by:

👉 Applying an ice pack
👉 Cleaning it with water
👉 Taking a painkiller or antihistamine if need be

Common foods that cause allergies include:

🤕 Eggs
🤕 Soy
🤕 Fish
🤕 Grains that contain gluten such as wheat, barley, oats
🤕 Nuts - peanuts, pine nuts, pecans, almonds, walnuts

Symptoms of a mild allergic reaction include:

>> Stomach pain
>> Hives or rashes
>> Swelling of the face and area around the mouth
>> Vomiting

Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction include difficulty breathing, tongue swelling up, dizziness, coughing etc.

It is caused due to a hormonal imbalance, the body producing more levels of the male hormones.

This impacts the menstrual cycle and causes other symptoms that can vary from person to person, but some common ones include:

Try including plenty of vegetables, fresh fruit, cheese, yoghurt, wholemeal bread and a bottle of water

🍎Encourage your child to be sun smart
Remind them to wear a broad-brimmed hat and apply SPF 30+ sunscreen

🍎Immunisation - check everything's up to date

🍎Medication
If your child is on any form of medication advise the school and your child’s individual teacher

🍎Posture
If your child has a backpack, check its straps are adjusted properly so the bag’s weight is distributed evenly
