✨ Not all challenging behaviours are what they seem…
When a child feels overwhelmed, their brain may shift into survival mode — and that can look like FIGHT, FLIGHT, FREEZE or FAWN. 💥🏃‍♀️🧊🙇‍♀️
These aren’t “bad” behaviours. They’re nervous system responses to stress, fear, or dysregulation — and they often show up in everyday situations at home, school, or therapy.
💡 As adults, we can shift our perspective:
Instead of “What’s wrong with this child?”
Ask: “What’s happening for this child’s nervous system?”
Swipe through to learn the signs of each response, and how we can support kids with empathy, safety, and connection. 💛

✨ Does your child switch hands while drawing or avoid reaching across their body?
These could be signs they’re finding it tricky to cross the midline, a key developmental skill linked to coordination, learning, and independence.
As paediatric OTs, we see this often, and the good news is, there are lots of playful ways to build this skill at home! 💪
🎁 Grab our FREE Crossing the Midline Resource for more info + easy, OT-approved activities to try at home.
