🌟 Myth-Busting News from Allora Medical Practice! 🌟

We are accepting new patients!

Let’s debunk some myths:

1. Not Accepting New Patients: We are absolutely welcoming new patients, ensuring everyone receives personalised care.

2. No Same Day Appointments: We have same-day appointments available—just call our lovely Admin. staff to book yours.

3. Billing is Confusing: Many find medical billing confusing. We ensure transparency so you understand your charges.

4. Registrars Aren’t Real Doctors: Registrars are fully qualified doctors with years of experience but gaining additional training in General Practice.

Quality care is easy to find—call us at (07) 4666 3336 to book an appointment. We look forward to welcoming you to Allora Medical Practice! 💙

Autumn in Allora is a beautiful time of year.🍁🍂

Cooler mornings, golden light, changing colours and that fresh country air make it one of the best seasons to enjoy our town. It’s also a lovely reminder to slow down, reset your routine and take care of your health heading into the cooler months.

We feel lucky to care for a community like this one.

Flu and COVID immunisation clinics will be commencing this coming Friday at Allora Medical. Please call our friendly administration team on (07) 4666 3336 to make a booking. Please be patient on the phones - it will be a very busy time for us all đŸ©ș

Now is a good time to get prepared: keep up with hand hygiene, stay home when unwell, and consider whether you’re due for a flu vaccination, especially if you’re older, pregnant, have a chronic condition, or work with vulnerable people.

This year there is an alternative to flu injections for 2-5 year olds - talk to our nurses about the new intranasal FluMist immunisation available in the clinic now.

In the meantime, stay on top of your health and book in if you have any concerns heading into the colder months and remember to wear a mask in the clinic if you are displaying symptoms of any respiratory illness 🙃

This month, why not take one small step towards better health – whether that’s booking a check-up, following up a concern, or making time to focus on your wellbeing.

We’re here to support you with personalised care at every stage of life.

School holidays are here – and with busy days, travel and changed routines, it helps to keep the basics in mind.

Pack regular medications if you’re heading away, encourage plenty of water, make sure bikes and scooters are used safely and keep an eye on bumps, scrapes and any signs someone may be unwell.

If you need us during or after the break, we’re here to help.

Today is Purple Day, a global initiative to raise awareness of epilepsy.

If you live with epilepsy, it’s important to speak with your doctor if your seizures become more frequent, last longer than usual, or feel different from your normal pattern. Changes in symptoms or seizure activity may mean your treatment plan needs reviewing.

If you’ve noticed a change in your seizure pattern, book an appointment with your GP to discuss your symptoms and care plan.

Did you know Allora Medical offers employment and insurance medicals?

These appointments are commonly needed for new roles, workplace requirements, licensing, or insurance applications. What’s included depends on what’s requested, but may involve a health history review, basic measurements, Q-Fever testing and any required tests or paperwork.

Call reception to book and tell us what your employer/insurer has requested so we can schedule the right appointment length.

At Allora Medical, we believe good care is built over time.

Attending a regular General Practice means you’re less likely to have to repeat your story, and more likely to receive care that reflects your history, your needs, and what matters most to you.

Continuity of care means fewer gaps, better understanding, and more personalised support, and allows you to build a trusted relationship with your health team over time. Good care starts with being known as a person – not just treated as a condition.

This week is Coeliac Awareness Week (13–20 March).

Coeliac disease doesn’t always look the same. Possible signs include ongoing bloating, abdominal discomfort, persistent fatigue, iron deficiency, or unexplained gut symptoms.

If you suspect coeliac disease, it’s important not to remove gluten before testing, as it can affect results.

Book a GP appointment to discuss your symptoms and organise appropriate testing.

Today is International Women’s Day – a good reminder that women’s health matters at every stage of life.

Whether it’s cervical screening, contraception, menstrual concerns, menopause symptoms, mental wellbeing, or a general check-in, it’s worth making time for your health (even if you’ve been putting it off).

Book a women’s health appointment with your GP to talk through how we can help you on your health journey – improving not only your physical health and wellbeing but your mental health too.

We’re seeing gastro in the community at the moment, especially among school-aged children.

Most cases improve with rest and plenty of fluids. Seek medical advice sooner if there are signs of dehydration (very low urine, drowsiness), ongoing vomiting, blood in stool, high fever, or symptoms lasting more than a few days – especially for little ones, older adults, or anyone with health conditions.

If you’re unsure what to do, call us for advice or book an appointment: 4666 3336
