Ok last one tonight I promise. As I have so many I decided just to stack a few taken from the same spot. I love nothing more than a storm on sunset.

A couple of nice strikes this afternoon. Nice sure what to expect tonight.

After a long afternoon in the 40 degree heat shooting cricket in Warwick the decision to go and see if I could capture some of the bolts I was seeing alerts ping on my phone every minute or two was a good one. I headed down toward Killarney and as posted last night managed a few nice bolts. In my haste to get away the heavy rain I managed to get a flat tyre which wasn’t ideal. Ṯhey say every cloud has a silver lining and mine was that due to a recent injury I wasn’t able to change the tyre myself so the red faced call to RACQ was made. Unsurprisingly they were busy so I had a bit of a wait but the good bit was I was no longer getting drenched and there was still loads of lightning around. Long story short I got some cool shots, had a nice chat with Mick who kindly did the heavy lifting and off I went again. As I am heading towards home the lightning intensified and I couldn’t get out of the car and get set up again quickly enough. I haven’t yet had time to go through all my photos so I have put together a couple of stacks that looked ok. Hope you like them.

An unexpected little chase on dusk this afternoon near Killarney.
Nice to catch up with the guru himself SE Qld Weather Photography -Chris McFerran who I’m sure will have some stunning photos to share. My chase was curtailed by a flat tyre so that will be it for me for now.

Not going to get too excited just yet but it’s starting to look promising for some action over the next couple of hours. It’s starting to build up in the west and currently getting lots of lightning notifications from around the Killarney region. I use the app “My Lightning Tracker and Alerts” which is a free app from the App Store if you use Apple and Google Play for Android.
Obviously stay safe if you are out and about.

One more from last night, just a bit of a fun edit.

I was pleasantly surprised at how visible Aurora Australis was from home here in Allora. I was expecting to have too much light pollution to see much. I have to say I’m pretty happy with this.

My Australia Down Under

I created this page so I could share my love of this great country with like minded people. I am fortunate to be able to take my passion of photography along with my love of travelling to places many people never get to go and call it my job. I often travel with my wife Kim.

A big part of what I do involves photographing an amazing event each year known as the Great Endeavour Rally raising funds for people with an intellectual disability. Each year we head to amazing destinations, often places that the general public are not allowed to travel. We spend time on private properties, travels roads only the brave would challenge and enjoy the company of some amazing people.

I also have the opportunity to photograph some pretty cool events from V8 Supercars , Rally Australia , World Surf League events like the Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast and Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach in Victoria and The Australian Schools Sailing Titles at Lake Macquarie NSW.

In 2019 we are planning a five week long road trip , destination unknown other than picking up Kim from Perth airport after I drive across from Adelaide and dropping her back to Perth on the way back ( this will allow Kim to save 6 days of leave just getting to and from our start point ). Our only criteria are our start and finish dates . We hope to catch up with good friends who will be on road somewhere at sometime. In the past we have decided the direction of our trips by simply choosing left or right at the front gate a but with no plans other than a direction.
