A week away in the Whitsundays - no phone coverage- feels like a real winter reset! Sailing, swimming, yoga, hiking, laughing and sharing times with friends felt like a real gift. It’s pretty cold here in Melbourne atm, so I’m going to hang on to the warmth as long as I can!

What a lovely and long summer! Slightly extended time at the beach ( thanks Covid) … camping ….. even a mini yoga retreat at Walkerville. All the good stuff. Friends, family, swimming in the ocean. So, 2022… I’m ready! It will be awesome to be back on the mat in studio. See you soon yogis!

Ok 2022, so far you are delivering all the promise of better days ahead 🤸🏾‍♂️ ( ok, so admittedly 8am New Year’s Day is early to make a call on the whole year 🤣). But I’m hopeful! 🤞🏻 and I’ll grab any opportunity for a chance to swim and be in the world. And obviously, yoga too!! Happy New Year all.

One of my lovely yogis contacted me on the weekend . “ what was that block thingy we did that was bottom up, block to the wall. For your neck??”.

It took a minute - but I remembered that this set up was a favourite and bought real relief! 🙌🏻
It’s a great shoulder opener, with the bonus of freeing built up tension in the neck. If it feels too challenging in the shoulders, just take the elbows a little way off the wall. Hold for 30seconds, building to 1-2 minutes.

Ok, so now we are in the “yoga studio has been taken over by kids and cat” phase. Sigh. Students who come to the Little Yoga Room know my cat well. She is diligent in inspecting every class! So, here is a little reminder of what she looks like. Note her dream yoga mat! Honestly, she is living her best life. 🌈 For me, I think I’ll take her advice and curl up in the sun and just bring a little warmth to my bones! ☀️☀️☀️

It’s the card making phase of lockdown… little notes to friends far and wide. Things are ok here, but you know ..200 days of lockdown is a lot! I find myself thinking of friends and family who I can’t visit. The little cards make me feel connected to them again. And hopefully gives them a little 🥰☺️

Some days, looking at a screen is literally the last thing I want to do! So, I’ve created FREE audio yoga classes. Now, I love a good detailed instruction, so the audio is easy to follow along. Some are short, some are a little longer. Some are relaxing, some are a little challenging 😉. Open the chest and stretch the side waist. Parighasana ( gate pose). Such a nice antidote to spending too much time on the couch or in front of a computer 😉. My top tip- the bent leg- really press the shin to the floor. Feel the quadricep lift and the buttock press forward- that’s your great base to lift and extend the torso!

Lockdown rhythms… sometimes my little drawings help me think about poses in different ways. You wouldn’t realise it from the drawings, but I was thinking about that settled feeling in the sit bones when the crown of the head is centred. And we all need a bit of centring down here in Melbourne! We know what to do in a lockdown, but still pretty challenging! Hope you’re all finding a little creativity comfort in some part of your day

Sometimes a little nurturing softness is all that’s required….this photo was taken just before our latest snap lockdown . Savasana on sheepskins with the feet pressed into a booster- a moment of deep stillness and relaxation. School exams, assignments, covid worries, all can be put aside for a few precious moments, also providing a little reserve to face challenges .

I’ve been relying on this trusted book over the last few months. As I manage the changes that come with being peri- menopausal, ‘s clear, helpful and effortlessly integrated sequences have been great. You can see it’s a well thumbed copy! I’d highly recommend it! Expect more uplifting, restorative and nurturing poses in the weeks leading up to Christmas!
