These are the real patterns I see in mums returning to work after mat leave - the ones behind the polished LinkedIn updates and “I’m so grateful to be back” emails.

Here’s what I see in my clients, over and over again:

😴 Fatigue that goes beyond tiredness – a deep, wired-but-exhausted state that makes even small tasks feel hard.

💭 Ambition – serious drive to feel capable again, get back into the rhythm of work, or even just reconnect with that side of yourself.

😡 Resentment – not always obvious, but bubbling under the surface when the mental load at home hasn’t changed or the workplace isn’t as supportive as promised.

🥑 Malnutrition - after months of sleep deprivation, breastfeeding, convenience foods, and a lack of real nutritional analysis of blood work (sometimes lack of blood work).

😔 A shift in identity – “I’m not who I was before, but I’m not sure who I am now either." The need to integrate the new mumma that you are.

Returning to work isn’t just a date in the calendar.
It’s a whole recalibration of your energy, expectations, and priorities.

This is why I created Back to Work After Babies — a self-paced course for working mums navigating this messy, transformative season.

You can work through it in your own time, at your own pace.

I'm heading on maternity leave in less than 2 weeks — if you’ve been thinking about joining, now’s the time.

I told my clients I’d be back 3 months after having my first baby 🤣

(seriously, the naivety of a 1st time mum).

At 2 months postpartum, I had a prolapse.
I was on bedrest. I kept moving the goalposts.
And when a dream job came calling at 8 months postpartum… I said no.

Because I wasn’t ready. My body wasn’t ready. My mind wasn’t ready.
And that’s not failure.

This is the part of return-to-work we don’t talk about.
Not the logistics or the outfits — but the healing. The grief. The gut decisions we make behind the scenes.

12 months after giving birth, I finally came back to work.
And it’s that experience that shaped the course I wish I had back then:
Back to Work After Babies — a self-paced course to help you plan your return on your terms.

🧠 For the planning, the emotional prep, and the career stuff too.

Back to Work After Babies is here ✨️

Returning to work after having kids isn't just about updating your resume or buying a new outfit (although that is a fun part 😉)

Too many mums return to work feeling exhausted, unsupported, and unsure how to make it all work.

Low iron, sleepless nights, struggles integrating into your old team, workplace pressure, mum guilt, daycare transitions, and an impossible mental load - is it any wonder mums feel like they are drowning?

You don't have to figure this out alone.

Back to Work After Babies gives you the strategies, structure, and support to transition back to work in a way that actually works for you.

In this program, you will learn how to:
👉 Restore your energy and health
👉 Dive deep into what your values are
👉 Set boundaries and advocate for your needs at work and home
👉 Manage your mental load without burning out
👉 Regulate big emotional feelings as they come up (aka daycare transitions)

If you are returning to work soon OR

You are back at work and want to take back control of your career and wellbeing...

Ever wonder why you can't focus at work when daycare worries are on your mind?

It's not lingering "baby brain".

It's your biology.

When you feel unsafe, your brain prioritises survival over everything else.

If you find yourself thinking:
✨️ Are they OK?
✨️ Did they settle today?
✨️ What if they get sick again?

It's completely normal.

Your body is protecting what matters most - your babies.

You dont need to fight these feelings.

What you need is a way to manage these feelings and it starts with acknowledging your need for safety and support before everything else.

It's not a supplement you can take.

It's deeper work.

If you want to learn this skill and more practical strategies for managing going back to work after maternity leave...

If you haven't yet watched the Netflix show , I would highly recommend it.

There are MANY heart-wrenching scenes in this TV show, however, this one was up there for me.

You'll know the scene if you watched it....when Belle locks her highly dysregulated little boy in his bedroom so she can take a Zoom call.

When she returns, he is asleep on the floor, his bed and sheets covered in vomit 😭

This scene hit hard for me as a , career coach, and naturopath for working mums because I know I have felt this pressure first hand and I know my clients do too, regularly.

How often do working mums have to hide their children to be taken seriously?

How many mums have felt like they must lock the door on their kids to get ahead in their career?

The more I have normalised having my child in the background of meetings, the easier and better my working life has become.

Can we all break through these societal concepts and conditioning and challenge this?

Because our kids exist and the sooner we accept this and normalise this, the sooner we can model a new way for them.

Let me know in the comments your thoughts & experiences on this!

*BONUS SESSION*

I have a special surprise for you in our Radically Returning to Work Summit.

I am very excited to welcome .co  – clinical nutritionist, mindset coach, and founder of Maia Mothers Collective.

Emma's expertise in women's health spans fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. But what makes her truly remarkable is her passion for helping mothers navigate the emotional weight of motherhood - which is something I see Mums suffering from of ALL THE TIME.

We are going to be discussing maternity leave and how to plan for it and hold boundaries. As well as navigating that ambition that we all still have after babies.

If you haven't yet registered, I have extended it until this weekend.

4 things working mums wish their employers knew.

Mum's are some of the most capable, adaptable, supportive, and creative humans in our workplaces.

Let's treat them like that.

Comments like "how was your holiday" after a maternity leave or "again" when you need to WFH due to child sickness are not helpful and if you notice these in your organisation, you need to come to our IWD Summit - Radically Returning to work.

A real glimpse into a typical day for a working mum of young children.

(And this doesn't include sickness and all the other curveballs that get thrown at you.)

Mothers are working in a broken system. The way work is structured was never designed with mothers in mind.

You can’t be the ‘perfect employee’ and the ‘perfect mum’ because their schedules and demands completely clash.

Work expects 100% focus. Motherhood expects 100% presence. And yet, mums are expected to do both without missing a beat. It’s impossible.

Join us for the Radically Return to Work summit FOR FREE where we discuss a new work life model for mums as well as other important topics giving you the tools you need to find a new way.
