Many patients have recently been asking about the use of semaglutide injections for weight loss. It has now recently been provisionally approved for some cases of severe fatty liver disease.

The National Prescribing Service has a wealth of information for patients and doctors alike about all medications, including this one (https://www.nps.org.au/).

The following information taken from the NPS website explains the use of semaglutide for weight loss - when it can be used and how it works. Careful monitoring is necessary if starting on this medication to ensure no significant muscle loss ensues and the possible side effects on the thyroid and pancreas need to be monitored. Dietician input and exercise physiology input go hand in hand with this medication as well as education about how to inject and guidance on speed of weight loss and sustaining long term goals. There is a risk of weight regain and global supply constraints are also a concern.

Our Diabetic Educator RN Joni Ubrihien who has done specialised training in the use of semaglutide injections and has extensive knowledge on appropriate medication titration and patient education - as such her fees have recently increased to $120 for an initial consult and $60 for follow up consultations for weight loss education consultations. Her appointments are only booked after a thorough discussion with your doctor about the risks and side effects of semaglutide and if it is appropriate and safe for you with your other medical conditions.

We have private Fluzone (standard) for $20 for those not eligible for the free vaccines (

It’s Melanoma awareness month this March! Below are 2 tables that outline some signs to look out for. Unfortunately not all melanomas are as obviously abnormal -looking and sometimes an excision or biopsy is necessary to confirm or exclude a diagnosis. Please book in for a regular skin check with your usual GP if you have any concerns and especially if you have a family history of melanoma or have had blistering sunburn in the past. The below information is from Melanoma Patients Australia and The Cancer Council.
