Thanks to Marilyn Perkins from our Patient Advisory Group and WCAN for initiating the Spot the Signs Talks we held today with Anne Moehead at Wollongbar Hall.
The hall was full of locals who were keen to keep informed.
Seeing so many attend keeps us all inspired to continue educating the community to provide better healthcare.
Please let us know of any future topics you might like covered.

Here is some introduction from Li Ann, who also comes as an experienced doctor joining our team as a new registrar. Welcome Dr Li Ann! (Dr Li Ann Wong)

I moved to Lismore from Malaysia in 2023 and have grown to love the area and never left! I have since spent time working in Lismore Base Hospital where I completed rotations in emergency medicine, general medicine, general surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, anaesthetics and intensive care which has provided a solid clinical base foundation and reinforced my passion for continuity of care. I have developed a strong foundation in hospital medicine and hands-on experience in rural and regional health and am eager to be starting my General Practice journey with Alstonville Clinic. I look forward to transferring these skills into general practice as I have special interests in paediatrics, women’s health and skin cancer/dermatology.
I am also multilingual and can converse proficiently in English, Malay, Cantonese, Mandarin and Japanese.
I aim to provide comprehensive, patient- centred care and make a meaningful, long-term impact within the community.

Here’s a bit about our new registrar, Matt, who we welcome back as an experienced doctor to our team!

Matt originally immigrated from South Africa to the Northern Rivers in 2009 and attended high school at Woodlawn in Lismore. He went on to do his studies in Biomedical Science at Griffith University, then Medicine at Wollongong University, where he was lucky enough to do placement in Alstonville clinic for a year as a medical student (the same clinic he went to as a teenager when they immigrated to Australia), which inspired him to pursue his career as a GP. He has subsequently worked at Lismore Base for 3 years gaining experience in various areas of medicine, surgery and critical care and has now commenced his GP training here in Alstonville.
When Matt isn't working, he enjoys spending time with his family, partner, surfing, spearfishing, playing tennis, squash, golf and basically every other sport he can squeeze into his free time, whilst juggling his dog, books he's reading and maintaining the ever growing garden and animals on the farm.
Matt is thrilled to be back at Alstonville Clinic and is excited for his career ahead of him in his hometown and can't wait to give back to the community of Alstonville that gave him and his family the lives they have here since immigrating from SA.

About 20 Australian children are diagnosed every year with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), the deadliest childhood cancer.

DIPG is an incurable tumour that develops in the brainstem, affecting vital functions of the nervous system like breathing, sleeping, bladder control and balance. This devastating disease mainly occurs in children under 12 years of age and with no effective treatment currently available, the average survival is only 10 months following diagnosis.

(See https://www.cancer.nsw.gov.au/research-and-data/cancer-researchers-in-nsw/holly-holliday)

Some of the reception staff, nurses and doctors from the clinic are running an individual or collective 100km grueling run: “The Ox”, next weekend to raise money and awareness for RunDIPG to better the outcomes of patients and families of those
affected by DIPG.

We wish them all good luck and energy for their efforts next weekend!

If you are keen to donate by volunteering time or money to this cause please see the links below.

What is DIPG? DIPG, or diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, is a type of brain tumour found in an area of the brainstem known as the pons. The name diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma describes how the tumour grows, where it is found, and what kinds of cells give rise to the tumour. DIPG is also known

Looking after the health of our community

Welcome to Alstonville Clinic. We offer a complete family medical service including emergency care, family planning, obstetric care, childhood medicine, health checks, palliative care, minor surgery, health assessments and chronic disease management.

The Alstonville Clinic doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and admin staff work together as a team to serve our local community. We encourage our patients to take an active role in their healthcare and work together with us to improve their health.

To minimise delay, consultations are by appointment. We allocate 15 minutes for standard consultations. If you anticipate spending longer with the doctor, please let the reception staff know at the time of booking.

We are not a ‘bulk billing’ clinic, however children 5 years and under will be bulk billed for consultations during normal working hours.
