INNER SMILE YOGA & HEALTH is a studio for holistic movement practices & body therapies. Holistic movement involves the whole body, addressing multiple bodily systems with each move or exercise. While other training, exercise, or treatment methods focus only on specific areas, we acknowledge the interconnectedness of all systems. Our practices help to restore balance within the body and thus boost its capability to heal and adapt to any situation. It's cold today, but last week the weather was just right for⠀
⠀
BEACH YOGA with a bunch of teenagers from our local high schools, MSJ and Emmanuel College. Teens can be a challenging clientele, but it is great fun, too! ⠀
⠀
We talked about the importance of breathing on both our physical and mental wellbeing, and how yoga can help as it improves posture and trains the many muscles that are involved in breathing. ⠀
⠀
I guess most of the young people were expecting the popular shapes, like down dog and triangle, and some quiet sitting, but I put them through some Kundalini yoga. Plenty of movement and a fair bit of physical and mental challenge. ⠀

SLEEP ISSUES...?⠀
⠀
After a long break from yoga, a lady visited our slow, restorative Hatha class on Thursday night. A couple of days later she returned, reporting that she had had the best sleep in a long time. ⠀
⠀
"After last Thursday's yoga session, I slept so much better - instantly!"⠀
⠀
If you have trouble falling asleep, it is important to reserve enough time for winding down before your planned bedtime. A slow, floor-based yoga class can do wonders! ⠀
⠀
While there are plenty of videos available, an in-person session at the studio may be a better choice as it offers a calm, quiet space without distractions and interruptions.⠀

Here we press the outer edge of the back foot (left) both down and against the wall while preparing for Utthita Parsvakonasana (Extended Side Angle Pose).

What is Tibetan yoga?
It is most likely the oldest form of yoga that we know of. It was developed by ancient Tibetan monks as part of their health system - similar to the role of yoga within Ayurveda.
While there are several traditions of Tibetan yoga, we mostly practice a simplified form that is easy to learn while still having the benefits.
Suitable for absolute beginners and those with moderate movement restrictions. Most exercises can be practised on a chair.
