Evolution Pilates has been re-branded to ACTIVATE Physio Pilates. We also offer Pilates mat and barre classes with Garuda exercise influence.

Based in Sydney’s inner west, we offer Physiotherapy consults, Specifc Exercise Rehab and Pilates sessions run by fully certified, talented and experienced staff. At Activate Physio and Evolution Pilates, you will be guided by experienced, physiotherapists and professional Pilates instructors to successfully recover from injury, improve your movement, muscle tone and balance or reduce your pain. We are here to help you achieve your best in physical health goals – from daily function to competitive or elite sport and dance, to pre and post pregnancy. We offer individualised, supervised Pilates exercise programs with 3 clients per instructor in the Pilates studio. We combine the proven, evidence based approach of physiotherapy with respected Pilates methods and principles, to prevent return of pain and sustain your peak physical wellbeing.

Next Term Dates: Starts Saturday 18th April - Monday 29th June 2026.

We have a few public holidays to navigate:
- No classes Anzac Day Saturday 25th April Public Holiday.
- There will be classes on Monday 27th April
- There will be classes on Saturday 6th June, however there will be no classes Monday 8th June.

What’s New: Due to high demand, we are adding new classes! I have asked our physiotherapists to assist me with the ONERO sessions this term, ensuring every participant receives the close clinical supervision necessary for safe, heavy loading.

Please contact our Customer Care Team to check available ONERO classes starting from 18/4/26. We also welcome your feedback and ideas for other class times.

Introducing Momoko Shimasaki to Activate Physio. Pilates

Physiotherapist Momoko is passionate about helping people maximise their quality of life through movement. Her interest in physiotherapy began as a young dancer when she witnessed the role of physio in the quick and thorough recovery of her injured peers.

Since then she has gone on to graduate from the University of Technology Sydney with a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science (2022) and a Master of Physiotherapy (2024).

Momoko is especially passionate about dance physiotherapy, with 4 years of dance teaching experience and 19 years of dance experience, including at a national level.

Momoko will be offering physiotherapy and Pilates exercise rehab consultations at Activate physio. Pilates.

We are also excited that Momoko will be available to offer pre pointe assessments at Activate Dance Physio, Annandale.

Please join us on Fridays at 12noon. Gorgeous stretching, strengthening and toning mat work, balance and relaxation barre and mat class.

Inspired by Garuda method of exercise, designed by dancer and Pilates/ Yoga teacher, James de Silva, Garuda takes Pilates movement further introducing spiral lines. These anatomical connective tissue lines mimic the body’s functional movement lines. It feels great to take the body into these stretch and movement directions.

Lifting Technique

Protect your Spine if Affected by Osteoporosis or lumbar disc pain.

Take repeated spinal flexion out for loaded lifting tasks.

Here are a few simple tips for lifting at home, that can go a long way toward reducing vertebral fracture risk and maintaining independence.

Lift Smart, Protect Your Spine
When lifting laundry baskets, groceries, or garden tools, bend your hips and knees — not your back. Keep your spine straight and hold objects close to your body. Face what you lift to prevent twisting while lifting the load. This reduces strain on your spine and helps prevent vertebral fractures in the anterior ( front) vertebral body.

Here at Activate Physio. Pilates we love to work with pregnant ladies throughout their time preparing for the birth and the time after the birth date.

Pre Natal Pilates session have many benefits to support you through your 3 trimesters. Exercise with modifications are specially devised for each person, supervised by our physiotherapists and highly qualified and experienced Pilates instructors.

Pain relief, Improved strength and flexibility, improved posture, breath control are all benefits of Pilates.

Post partum Pilates programmes aid in recovery of your pre pregnancy body! Some mother’s may need medical clearance before returning to physio supervised exercise. We are happy to work with your medical team.

However in most cases physiotherapy consultations do not need a referral from a doctor.

Here we are doing an ONERO Initial assessment and we are JUST about to do the Tandem Step Test... Ready Set G...o..! and Sammy the studio mini schnauzer, decided that the line was a great place to sit. When we tried to coax her away with a greenie treat, she went back to exactly the same spot! We had a good laugh. 😊
