The flip-side of continuity with a known provider is the joy it brings us.

The benefits for the family are well known and documented, but choosing us to journey with you is a privilege that we don’t take lightly. From the beginning of your pregnancy (and for some even prior to that), getting to know you for 9 months .. it’s not just another day at work for us when your baby arrives - we share in your joy, and it never gets old being a part of these moments with you.

The mask can't hide the joy in Dr Loh’s eyes, and we know beneath it is a familiar joyous smile too.

With thanks to the Kindred families who share these moments with us, and to .photography for capturing this one so beautifully.

A little festive flare for our reception area 🎄

We are looking forward to continuing to provide care to families over the festive season. Our clinic will be closed on public holidays, and clinicians may have slightly reduced hours on the days between them, but otherwise both or clinical and administrative teams are available as usual.

We hope everyone enjoys a safe and happy holiday period 🎄

This hall in our beautiful home has seen many feet walk up and down it, in and out of our consultation rooms, where on the other side we see and hear and help and heal.. we listen, we educate, we celebrate, we reassure and we comfort.. we share in each individual family’s journey, each step of the way, in a unique way, every single day.

Our job is supporting families, which means our days are varied, they’re sometimes long, and they’re often unpredictable. No two families need the same things from us, and despite these doors opening and closing all day long, no two consultations are the same.

So, a little note on why we run late sometimes, or why we need to move appointments..

We know it impacts your day, we know you have made arrangements to make that appointment, we know it can make you feel uneasy when you’re looking forward to a check in, only for our admin team to let you know we have been called away, we are running late or we need to reschedule. We do our best to keep everyone as updated as we can when the unpredictability of our day is going to collide with scheduled appointments. But please know that that same time we have needed to dedicate to someone else unexpectedly, would also be (and will likely be at some point) dedicated to you too, when you need us.

We always welcome your feedback to our practice manager or our directors about these things, and very much encourage you to chat to your doctor or midwife about the context of this if it has caused frustration or worries. Our admin team do their best to always relay messages of these changes with kindness, we are grateful for them managing challenging rescheduling with minimal notice, and we are also grateful for people’s understanding and respect in return.

We are thankful to be in a position in private practice where we can be what families need us to be, when they need us most 💜

Does Kindred ‘do waterbirth?’

Yes, yes we do.

All our team (obstetricians and midwives) are happy to support women to use warm water immersion in labour, and to have a waterbirth if this is the right thing for them - Dr Loh helped facilitate a lovely calm waterbirth just this week, and pictured is our midwife Mel using warm water immersion in labour last year.

There are certain situations where warm water immersion and/or waterbirth isn’t possible, or isn’t safe, but outside of this, it is something we welcome you to discuss with us as part of your birth preferences, to enable you to understand options and make informed decisions both in the lead up and on the day.

We have some exciting news 🎉

As part of our roll out of education and resource upgrades happening throughout 2022, we are thrilled to let you know we are partnering with CPR Kids to offer monthly baby & child first aid classes at Kindred.

These classes are suitable for parents to be, parents of babies (welcome to bring your baby along up until 9 months of age) and parents of young children/toddlers.

They will be facilitated by an experienced paediatric nurse and midwife with child health qualifications, and are a succinct but comprehensive overview of the information you need to gain confidence in managing emergency situations at home.

CPR Kids also offer private and in home classes, if you have a group of friends having/just had kids, or want to get your family together to do the course together.

You can see all the booking options on their website, or the direct link to book at Kindred is below:

At the end of what is only the first week of January, but feels more like this year has already been 600 days long with all that’s going on in the world, we are here - still doing what we love, still sharing in the joy of bringing babies into the world 💕

We know having babies during a pandemic may pose challenges that nobody could anticipate would need to be navigated, but we see these gorgeous babies coming back in for their discharge visits, showered with the same love and blissfully unaware that this world is a little more challenging than it was before.

So keep celebrating all the great things you are achieving, like birthing and raising these precious babies, and know that it makes us so happy to be able to be part of you doing that.

What a year 2021 has been!

We are absolutely overflowing with gratitude for our entire team - the doctors, the midwives, allied health, administrative support and those behind the scenes, to our colleagues Mater Mothers and most importantly to the families who we have been privileged to care for this year.

Thank you for being here with us, for believing in what we do and why we do it, and for contributing to another great year at Kindred.

This year we have helped 473 families welcome 478 babies.

Our busiest month was July, with 58 babies born, including 3 sets of twins (two sets arriving on the same day)!

Our busiest day was October 13, with 6 babies arriving - making it our most popular birthday this year.

If you have had a baby with Kindred this year, we would love to see and hear what they’re up to now!

Next year Kindred turns F I V E! And we can’t believe how far we have come. Thank you for supporting us as we continue to grow, to learn, and to deliver change.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥳

Our home is your home, and we are so glad you find as much joy in it as we do 🏠 💕

We received some beautiful words from one of our Kindred families recently, and it was a lovely reminder of just how lucky we are to have the team that we do.

“Such a surreal moment today! I used to watch other kids play with the toys in the waiting room when I was pregnant with Jackson and wonder if he would be playing with them one day☺️
So happy that we can come back to Kindred not only for our next pregnancy but for our IVF treatment to get us there🌻”

This family welcomed their son with Dr Milford, and are now back ‘at home’ with Kindred to see Dr Vincent Loh: Brisbane Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Fertility Specialist for their fertility journey, so that hopefully we can see their family continue to grow. How amazing to have all that specialist care under one roof, and what an honour it is for us to create a sense of home for these families.

If you would like to know more about the services our team offers, check out the profiles on our website (link in bio) or give our friendly admin team a call - we are very happy to see you just for a consultation if you aren’t sure where to start.

Vasa previa. This incredible image shows the gentle precision of our obstetrician, Dr Vincent Loh: Brisbane Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Fertility Specialist, safely helping a Kindred family welcome their baby safely with vasa previa. That single line along babies head is a rich and pulsing blood vessel, the baby’s lifeline.. precariously placed in front of baby, rather than behind.

We are so fortunate to have the outstanding skill of our obstetricians in both every day settings providing family-centred maternity care, and of course the most high risk situations.

Vasa praevia is a very rare condition affecting between 1 in 1200 and 1 in 5000 pregnancies. It is where blood vessels travelling from your baby to your placenta, unprotected by placental tissue or the umbilical cord, pass near to the cervix. These blood vessels are very delicate and can tear when you are in labour or when your waters break. This can be very dangerous as the blood that is lost comes from the baby. Babies only have a small amount of blood in their bodies, so they don’t need to lose much to become very unwell.

This Kindred family thankfully had an accurate diagnosis of vasa previa, which we were able to carefully monitor and safely help welcome their little one at Mater Mothers at 36 weeks (who is now home with them and thriving)! This family were able to have the skill of Dr Loh to deliver their baby safely, and a Kindred midwife by their side at the birth and as they transitioned home.

With thanks to our Kindred families for sharing your journey with us, especially when they take unexpected turns, and allowing us to navigate with you to make collaborative decision about what’s is best for your family. And thanks, as always, to our incredible Kindred team, who every day remind us why collaboration and continuity are paramount to positive outcomes for all.

Happy Father’s Day to all our Kindred Dads!

In fact to all the Dads, the dads-to-be, the grand-dads, the step-dads and the father figures.
Happy Father’s Day to our own Dr Milford and Dr Loh, who spend their time bringing life into the world that in turn creates smiles like this!
Happy Father’s Day to all the husbands of our midwifery team, who hold forte for our families while Mum helps another family.

Never underestimate your role as a father, your contribution to your family and the pure delight we see beaming from your eyes when you look at your children.

Here’s to you 🍻
